The Ondo State Police Command, on Thursday, confirmed the arrest of a man identified simply as Oke Loya, for allegedly killing a teenager, Timibra Meretighan, at the Arogbo community in the Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was gathered that the 17-year-old pupil and his colleagues were writing an examination in a classroom at the Ijaw National High School, in the Arogbo area of the State last Monday when the suspect invaded the premises and started chasing the students out of the classroom.

A source said while chasing the pupils out of the classroom, the suspect allegedly strangulated the 17-year-old student.

After the incident, the principal of the school quickly rushed to the police station to report the matter,” the source said.

Contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect, and said an investigation had commenced.

Odunlami said, “On Monday, the Principal of Ijaw National High School, came to the station and reported that one Oke Loya, 27, who took shed at the school security gate during the rain, strangulated one Meretighan Timibra, 17, of Arogbo Ibe. The suspect claimed the students called him a madman; he has been arrested and detained.”

Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two little girls and the theft of their mother’s car in Akure.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in the state, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, told newsmen that the abduction took place on Friday night.

She said upon their return from an outing at about 8p.m., the mother parked the car in front of her house and went out to open the gates leaving the two kids in the vehicle.

According to the PPRO, another car with three occupants suddenly drove up to hers; some of the occupants collected her car keys and drove her car away with the kids still inside.

Mrs. Odunlami said the anti-kidnapping section of the police is already on the trail of the assailants to effect the rescue the two kids and recover the car.

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the alleged assassination of a forty-year-old man, Mr Babatunde Adeluka Olubasa by unknown persons inside a popular hotel at Ijapo Area of Akure. 

He was alleged to have been shot dead inside the hotel premises where he lodged last Saturday, after he was trailed to the hotel by three armed men after attending a function in Akure.

He was shot at the bar of the hotel where he relaxed to take a drink.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, said it was a case of assassination.

Mr Ikoro disclosed that the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami, had ordered a full-scale investigation into the killing, even as the entire premises of the hotel is now deserted.

The Ondo State Police Command says two policemen and one civilian were killed during last week’s violence that engulfed the state amidst #EndSARS protest.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, who confirmed this in Akure, while parading eighteen suspected looters and arsonists, explained that the two policemen were killed in Ore and Ondo town.

Mr Salami said the victim in Ore was mobbed while the policeman in Ondo was killed and burnt inside his car.

He said the civilian casualty was one of the three-man gang that attempted to rob a new generation bank in Ondo town.

A lone accident involving men of the Nigeria Police has claimed two lives of policemen in Akure.

The accident which occurred on Oba Ile road was reportedly caused by a burst tyre.

Ondo State Police Command PRO Tee Leo who also confirmed the accident said accident said Eight other policemen sustained various degrees of injuries and had been taken to the hospital.

Report says the convoy of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu ran into the scene and made efforts to rescue the injured.

The newly deployed Commissioner of Police, CP, in Ondo State, Mr Bolaji Amidu Salami, has resumed duty on Wednesday 3rd of June at the state headquarters of the Nigeria Police Command, Igbatoro Road, in Akure.

Mr Salami took over as the 30th Ondo State Commissioner of Police from Mr Undie Adie, who was redeployed to Osun State Police Command.

The new Ondo CP in his address, said his target was to ensure continuous protection of lives and property in the state.

In his farewell message, the former Ondo State Police Commissioner, Mr Undie said he has a confidence in the new CP, adding that he was happy that crimes drastically reduced during his tenure in Ondo State.
