A 52-year-old mother, Mrs Patience Ayube, her son, 23-year-old, Josiah Ayube and two others have been dragged before an Osun State Magistrate court sitting in Ile-Ife for alleged theft of a motorcycle.

The police prosecutor, Mr Abdullahi Emmanuel stated that the mother and her son with 22-year-old, Oluwaseun Joseph and 20-year-old, Friday Emmanuel conspired among themselves to commit the offence.

Mr Emmanuel disclosed that they stole one Honda Motorcycle valued the sum of 285,000 naira, property of one Emmanuel Akpan at Texaco Area, in Ile-Ife.

However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against them by the police and their counsel, Mr Olalekan Babatunde, pleaded for the bail of the defendants in the most liberal term.

The presiding magistrate, A.I. Oyebadejo granted the bail of the defendants in the sum of 50,000 naira with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case till June 30, for a definite hearing.

A 41-year-old polytechnic dropout, Adebowale Babatunde, has been remanded in Ilesha Correctional Center for allegedly presenting himself as a lawyer before an Osun State Magistrate Court 6 Osogbo. 

Babatunde was arraigned on two-count charge of false pretence and unlawfully possession of Call-to-the-Bar certificate. 

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, told the court that on March 10th (Wednesday), 2021 at about 10 AM, the defendant, falsely presented himself as a lawyer before Osogbo Magistrate Court Six and unlawfully had in his possession three Call-to-the-Bar certificates thereby committing offences contrary to and punishable under Section 484 and 430(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.” 

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the alleged offences filed against him. 

Counsel for the defendant, Mr T. S Adegboyega made an oral bail application assuring the court to provide reliable surety. 

The presiding Magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ilesha Correctional Center and adjourned the case till 31st March (this month) for ruling on the bail application.

A 23-year-old housemaid, Olayemi Lawrence has been remanded in Ilesha Correctional Center for alleged stealing and attempted kidnap of her boss identified as Chief Eunice Fateye. 

Olayemi was dragged before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo on a five-count charge bothering on conspiracy, burglary, stealing, attempted arson and attempted kidnap of her boss. 

The Police Prosecutor, Mr Abiodun Fagboyinbo in the charge brought before the court stated that “Olayemi”, in December 2020 at about 2 AM at Ilasa-Ijesha in Obokun, broke into the house of one Chief Mrs Eunice Abike Fateye of No 5 Orofon Street to steal an Itel P36 mobile phone and one android mobile phone valued 150,000 naira. 

The prosecutor also alleged that the accused stole one ATM card belonging to her principal and used same to withdraw the sum of 305,000 naira from the principal’s bank account and also threatened to set her house ablaze if she refuses to send the sum of 500,000 naira. 

Olayemi was further accused of attempting to kidnap Chief Mrs Eunice Abike Fateye by sending her series of text messages if she fails to send the sum of 500,000 naira.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her. 

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Nagite Okobe, prayed the court to grant her bail in most liberal term assuring the magistrate that she has reliable sureties and was willing to stand her trial. 

The prosecutor opposed the bail stating that she will jump bail if granted and the life of the complainant will be in danger because the agents of the accused person have been threatening the life of the victim.

The Magistrate, Mr Adebayo Ajala transferred the matter to Ibokun Magistrate Court on the grounds that the alleged offence was committed in that jurisdiction. 

He ordered that she should be remanded in Ilesha Correctional Center till Monday, January 18, 2021.

A 34-year-old bricklayer, Tunde Oyedokun has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for raping and impregnating a 13-year-old girl. 

Oyedokun was arraigned before an Osun State Magistrate Court in Osogbo on August 16, 2019, and since then was remanded in Ilesha Correctional Facility. 

The Police Prosecutor, Mr Abiodun Fagboyinbo informed the court that Oyedokun in April 2019 at No. 5, Balogun Street, Omigade Area, Osogbo unlawfully and indecently have the carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old minor (name withheld). 

Fagboyinbo said the offence committed was contrary to and punishable under Section 218 and 222 of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the two counts, but the magistrate denied him bail and remanded him in Correctional Center to attend his trial. 

The Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Awodele while delivering the judgment said the prosecutor proved the case beyond reasonable doubt that Oyedokun truly committed the offence. 

She sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment for count one and two years for count two. He noted that the term shall run concurrently.

A 39-year-old alleged rapist, Adebayo Akinola has been arraigned before an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on two counts charge of unlawful sexual intercourse and taking undue advantage of a 16-year-old girl. 

The Police Prosecutor, Mr John Idoko informed the Chief Magistrate that Akinola last week, November 5, 2020 at about 6:30 PM at Ataoja Estate unlawfully had sexual intercourse with a minor by taking undue advantage of her mental and physical condition. 

He stated that the offence committed was contrary to Section 31(1)(2) and 32 of the Child’s Rights Laws of Osun State 2007.

However, the accused person pleaded not guilty to the two counts preferred against him by the police. 

The counsel for the accused, Miss Nkiri Queen made an oral bail application, saying, the accused person is mentally unstable as narrated by his mother. 

The police opposed the oral bail application made by the defence counsel on the ground of the severity of the offence.

The Chief Magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara ordered that the accused person be remanded in Ilesha Correctional Center and adjourned the case to December 9, 2020, for ruling on bail.
