The state government has ordered the closure of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Campus for two weeks following the return of suspended Rector, Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo.

The closure of the institution was contained in a statement signed by the commissioner for education, Mr Dipo Eluwole and made available to journalists in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

The statement read, “This to inform the general public, particularly members of staff and students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree to proceed on two (2) weeks break, with immediate effect.

“The immediate break is a necessary action in order to maintain peace in the Institution consequent upon the forceful return of the suspended Rector, Dr. T.A. Odetayo.

“The general public should also note that School accounts have been frozen with immediate effect and it is imperative that everyone cooperates fully and adheres to these directives.

Osun state government has given approval for the immediate appointment of Mr. Alabi Kehinde as the acting rector of the Osun State Polytechnics, Iree following the suspension of the erstwhile rector Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo.

This is contained in a letter signed by the permanent secretary, Osun State ministry of Education, Mr. M.K Jimoh dated July 11.

Mr. Jimoh in the letter said that the erstwhile rector should step aside while investigation into the allegations of corruption and abuse of office levelled against him are to be thoroughly investigated.

The appointment of Mr. Alabi Kehinde takes immediate effect.

If stakeholders do the needful, education sector would not remain the same again.

This is the submission of the Chairman, House Committee on Education Mr. Babatunde Ibirogba during visit to Osun State College of Education Ila Orangun and Osun State Polytechnic Iree.

Mr. Ibirogba said all stakeholders should be proactive and contribute their quota to the development of Education sector to make it functional.

He promised that the House of Assembly would look into the challenges facing the schools while assuring proper funding of Tertiary institutions in the state.

Other members of the committee advised the institutions to make entrepreneurial skills as a course of study to solve unemployment problems among graduates.

Meanwhile, in their response, the Provost College of Education, Ila Orangun Professor Issac Oyewole and Rector, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Dr. Olawoye Olaniran solicited the support of the Legislature in filling various vacancy posts in the institutions.
