In a bid to ensure outstanding graduates, the Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, wants the management of the Osun State University to sustain its efforts towards ensuring the institution conforms to international best practices.

The Chairman, House Committee on Education, Alhaji Sikiru Bajepade made the call when he led the team of other members of the committee on an oversight visit to the management of the institution, to assess the ongoing projects being executed.

Alhaji Bajepade lauded the management team of the Osun State University for its transparency and efforts aimed at making the institution notable amongst its peers across the nation.

He called on the state institutions to be more innovative, considering the present economic situation of the nation.

In separate contributions, other committee members, Engineer Abiola Awoyeye, Prince Adeyemi Adewumi and Mr Rasheed Bamidele gave kudos to Governor Adeleke and the institution’s ingenuity in maintaining its positive status quo, as no negative report about the institution has ever been presented before the OSHA.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Osun State University, Professor Clement Adebooye lauded the governor for usual financial support and the granting the management full autonomy to run its affairs without any political interference.

He stressed that the present administration in the state had contributed immensely towards the ongoing Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Anatomy Complex project, which is at almost 70% completion.

Professor Adebooye commended the House Committee on Education for its continuous positive support of the institution’s activities.

A consistently peaceful teaching-learning environment devoid of strike and students violence is critical to attaining the status of a 21st century institution responsive to the needs and aspirations of the society.

The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Clement Adebooye, made the remark while addressing newsmen on the campus.

Professor Adebooye explained that to ensure this, the Institution remained committed to increasing staff and students satisfaction level through beyond -the- bar measures as well as deployment of modern technology for impacting knowledge.

The Vice Chancellor also announced the university’s combined convocation programme where over 4,000 students would be awarded degrees and diplomas in various areas, saying that the management would ensure that students graduate within the calendar of their Programme.

“Henceforth, we shall be graduating our students every September that follows their final examinations in July of same year. For this year,we are graduating our final year students for the 2021/2022 academic session that ended in July 2023 and our final year students for 2022/2023 academic session just completed in July 2023”.

On the construction of University’s new Teaching Hospital by Dr Alakija, he said the project was 97 percent complete.

“But on the convocation day, our Chancellor will disclosed the day when the project will be commissioned. Efforts are on top gear over the project.”

The Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has commended the nursing practitioners in Osun State for being a partner in progress in the state, while reaffirming his commitment to their welfare of nurses and other health practitioners in the state. 

The governor stated this at the opening ceremony of the International Nurses Week Celebration held at the College of Health Sciences, Osun State University, Isale-Osun, Osogbo organised by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Osun State Council. 

The governor, represented by the Special Adviser on Public Health, Dr. Akindele Adekunle reiterated his continuous resolve to prioritise the welfare of health workers in the state. 

“Welfare of the people is a first-line charge in the government of Governor Ademola Adeleke and this is evident in the myriads of benefits that are being sorted and paid intermittently by the governor for every career worker, civil and public servant in the state”.

He commended the collaborative efforts and good relationship between the nurses and other departments in the health sector of the state.

The Acting Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Comrade Waheed Oyeyemi commended the Governor for priotising welfare of the entire Osun workers, especially the regular payment of salary and payment of some of the salary arrears owed by the previous administrations.

The Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has advocated maintenance culture across public institutions and an end to the so-called ‘Nigerian culture’ in the management of public buildings. 

Speaking at the inauguration of two separate projects at the Osun State University, Governor Adeleke condemned the usual neglect of public buildings after inauguration, lamenting that such practices led to loss of public resources incurred through renovation of public facilities. 

The Governor affirmed that it is time the nation abandoned the negative label of ‘Nigerian culture’, which he said in reality means neglect, abandonment, and waste of public buildings due to lack of maintenance.

The Governor promised that in Osun State, enforcement of maintenance culture will be a priority going forward.

Governor Adeleke also approved the construction of the link road leading to the Folorunsho Alakija Teaching Hospital.

While commending the Vice Chancellor and his management team for doing a good job, Governor Adeleke affirmed that the inauguration ceremony was significant for his administration for two reasons namely the release of funds for the completion of previously abandoned project and two, the approval given for the commencement of new project within the university. 

Earlier, The Vice Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Adeboye who briefed the Governor that the two projects and the ongoing multi-billion naira Teaching Hospital were donated by the Chancellor of the University, Dr Folorunso Alakija, said the completed projects at the College of Health Sciences had been abandoned since 2009, commending the State Governor for giving approval and releasing funds for the completion of the projects.

The inaugurated project includes a 320 bed space hostel funded from the internally generated revenue of the University and the completion of the abandoned 57 office complex of the College of Health Sciences at Isale-Osun, Osogbo.

The Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has described Osun State University, UNIOSUN, as a shining light among other universities in the world.

Governor Adeleke stated this while receiving the management team of the College of Law of the university, led by the Provost, Professor Mojeed Alabi in his office at the State Secretariat, Abere.

He said he is proud about the institution being a Peoples Democratic Party’s, PDP’s legacy under the administration of former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

The governor reiterated his commitment to support the growth and development of the university so as to further produce first-class graduates that will be generally acceptable and marketable in the labour market.

Governor Adeleke called on the university administrators to sustain the tempo of best practices and professionalism, stressing that the institution and its colleges must continue to be run transparently and responsibly. 

Earlier, the Provost, College of Law, Osun State University, Ifetedo Campus who commended the governor for his style of governance which he said has touched every sector in the state, invited him to the third in the series of distinguished personality lecture of the College of Law of the university slated for the 31st of May, 2023.

For Nigerian universities to compete with their counterparts in the world, there is the need for the universities to have academic, administrative and financial autonomy.

The pro-chancellor and chairman of council, Osun State University, Professor Yusuf Ali stated this while delivering a lecture marking the 80th birthday anniversary of Emeritus Professor Michael Omolewa held in Ibadan.

Professor Ali, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, explained that the advancement of the Nigerian universities was being constrained by inherent weaknesses in appointment, the nature of Nigerian laws, tribalism and ethnicity, multiplicity of regulators, professionalization of unionism, and lack of academic culture among others.

Representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education, Professor Abba Abubakar, Head of Department of Adult Education, University of Ibadan, Professor Kester Ojokheta and former Executive Secretary, National Commission for Nomadic Education, Professor Rashid Aderinoye described Professor Micheal Omolewa as a seasoned lecturer who had impacted many adult education and literacy experts in Nigeria.

 In an interview, the celebrant, Professor Micheal Omolewa who was a former permanent delegate and ambassador of Nigeria to UNESCO from January 2000 to August 2009, expressed gratitude to God for his achievement attaining 80 years.

Professor Omolewa was a pioneer of adult education and literacy not only in the University of Ibadan but also in Africa.

He was also a deputy chair of the governing board of the Commonwealth of Learning in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Necessary arrangements have been put in place by the Osun state government to ensure the State University commences corona virus test within the next one month.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Labode Popoola stated this while unveiling a sanitizing cubicle constructed by the Engineering Department of the university to fight the spread of the Corona virus pandemic.

Professor Popoola said the institution had the capacity to produce three to five of the sanitizing cubicles in a week.

Professor Popoola noted that various institutions including banks, hospitals, schools, churches and mosques could take advantage of the facility.

The Vice chancellor explained that the university had also designed template for virtual examination so as to mitigate effects of Covid-19 on academic activities in the institution.

On his part, Director of Works, Osun State University, Osogbo, Doctor Idris Olatunde said the department had the potential of producing the facility in large quantity.

Doctor Olatunde noted that the department had early fabricated a ventilator as part of its efforts to contain Covid 19 in the state.
