Former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has described the passage of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Olusanya Adegboyega Dosumu as painful and a great loss to Nigeria, to Ogun State and to the entire Owu people.

The former governor in a tribute made available to newsmen in Abeokuta described the late monarch as a bridge-builder, a compassionate and highly principled personality who stuck to his own convictions.

The former governor who is the Aare Ajibosin of Owu Kingdom expressed his condolence to the Balogun of Owu Kingdom who is also a former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the governor of Ogun State and the Alake of Egbaland on the sad and painful loss.

Two persons have been reportedly killed in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in a gas explosion at a hotel owned by a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

The gas explosion at the hotel located at Oke Mosan area also left three others persons injured.

The Hotel Facility Manager, Mr. Tunde Osinubi while confirming the incident said the explosion was a result of fake gas cylinder being used in servicing a revolving door at the hotel.

According to him those injured have been taken to the hospital and are responding to treatment.

It would be recalled that in the last two weeks, two other gas explosions have been reported in Abeokuta resulting to the death of four persons, including a minor.

Former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has validated his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at his Olukokun Polling Unit, Isote Ward 12, Sagamu, Ogun State after officially joining the party.

The former governor, who participated in the ongoing registration and revalidation exercise of the party, was accompanied by his supporters and former political appointees.

The two-time former governor of Ogun State had last year said he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party with the promise of pulling out from partisan politics.

Otunba Daniel said the decision to join the APC was well considered and thought out, noting that Nigeria needed leaders to come together and speak with one voice in order to tackle challenges confronting the country.

The former Ogun State governor was received into the APC at his Asoludero residence in Sagamu by the state governors of Ogun, Ondo, Kebbi, Kano and Niger Dapo Abiodun

One person has been feared dead as scores of residents of Sagamu staged a protest over the death of Remo Stars Football Club player, Tiamiyu Kazeem.

The protesters stormed the Palace of the Akarigbo and the Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, demanding justice for the deceased.

The protesters condemned the incessant brutality and indiscriminate arrests by law enforcement agencies in the town and its environs. 

A former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, was among dignitaries that addressed the protesters at the palace where he urged them to be law-abiding.

The member, House of Representatives representing Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, Mrs. Adewunmi Onanuga, and the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape, were also at the palace to appeal to the protesters.

Meanwhile, armed policemen have been deployed in the town to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

The cause of the death of the protesters is still sketchy as at the time of this report.

Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of Ogun State Police Command, Alhaji Abimbola Oyeyemi has not been successful as his phone line had been continually busy.

Former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has thrown his weight behind the Western Nigeria Security Network Initiative codenamed “Operation Amotekun” launched by the six Governors of the Southwest region.

Otunba Gbenga Daniel stated this during a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde in his office at Agodi, secretariat, Ibadan. 

The former governor described “Operation Amotekun” as the response of the people of the region to the current security challenges facing the country such as insurgency, banditry, and kidnappings as well as farmers-herders clash.

On the inauguration of Park Managers in the state, Otunba Daniel lauded Governor Makinde for the step taken to bring sanity into the motor park management system in the state.

When asked if he has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Gbenga Daniel declined to comment.
