Oyo state Police Command has directed one Mr Ademola Babalola, who has been parading himself as the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Oyo state council, to opt for legal option in claiming property belonging to the Union from the incumbent Chairman, Mr Adewumi Faniran.
Mr Babalola had written a petition to the Command requesting that all property belonging to the NUJ including bank accounts and other documents be released to him.
On his part, the incumbent Chairman, Mr Faniran explained that he was only acting on the order given by the National Industrial Court which stated that all parties should maintain status quo pending the determination of a suit challenging the eligibility of Ademola Babalola in contesting the Oyo NUJ 2019 elections.
Responding, the Iyaganku area Commander, Mr S.A Oke advised Mr Babalola to seek redress in court, noting that the police could not force Mr Faniran to release the property in his custody as the case was still in court.
It would be recalled that some aggrieved members of the Oyo NUJ had approached the National Industrial Court to challenge the eligibility of Mr Ademola Babalola to participate in the December 18th council election which was eventually postponed by the duly constituted credential committee.
