Voting has commenced in the PDP South West Zonal Congress going on in Osogbo.

The voting which started at about 20 minutes to 5 had Ekiti state delegates casting their votes first with former Governor Segun Oni leading the train.

This followed accreditation of delegates from the six states making the Zone.

Earlier, Chairman of the Congress and the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Mr Benson Abuonu described the election as a family affair, promising to be as transparent as possible.

Mr Abuonu pleaded with stakeholders to accept the out come of the election in the interest of a united PDP.

Similarly, the leaders of the two PDP factions in the Southwest, Governor Seyi Makinde of  Oyo state and former Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state embraced each other and promised to work with winners of the election.

In his comment, Governor Makinde stated that the exercise was a familiar affair,adding that whatever happened had ramification on the PDP at the National level.

Also, Former Governor Fayose who identified Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state as the leader of the party in the South West cautioned their followers and supporters against fanning ember of discord among them.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose says efforts to impose candidates on Peoples Democratic Party members during the coming Zonal

Congress of the party would lead to another crisis.

The former governor made this known at the Ogun State PDP Secretariat while addressing the Ogun State delegates.

Mr. Fayose noted that they were not contesting the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on the zone but said imposition of candidates in any of the states in the zone by the governor would be resisted.

The former governor explained that independence of every state in the Southwest should be allowed and condemned interference from the Oyo State governor.

Also speaking at the event, a former House of Representatives member from Ogun State, Mr. Ladi Adebutu said the party was working to achieve success in the 2023 election.

Chairmen of the party from five states in the Southwest at the end read a communique where it was announced that the five states of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun Ondo and Osun work together during the Zonal delegates conference.
