Police have arrested 50 suspected criminals and members of various notorious gangs and networks across the country.

This was contained in a series of tweets from the Police Headquarters in Abuja.

The arrests according to the Police, were carried out by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team and the Special Tactical Squad of the Force attached to Operation Puff Adder II.

They were outcomes of successful follow-up on cases bordering on kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry, unlawful possession of firearms, among others.

During operations that led to the arrests, 10 prohibited firearms, 2,496 AK-47 live ammunition, 10 live cartridges, and cartons of tramadol drugs worth over N3 million naira were recovered.

Other items recovered by the police included bags of weed suspected to be Indian hemp, two laptop computers, and eight mobile phones.

In one of the outreaches, operatives while on patrol along the Kachia-Kaduna Highway intercepted two men – Danjuma Dachung and Markus Danladi – in Kachia, Kaduna State on February 28.

They were said to be conveying 1,565 AK-47 ammunition in a Volkswagen car while investigations revealed that the suspects were members of a syndicate engaging in the supply of ammunition to bandits in their various camps and hideouts in forests in Kaduna State, from Jos.

“Further investigations led to the arrest of one Suleiman Tukur, 55yrs old and his son, Shuaibu Suleiman, 18yrs on March 9, 2021, who are relatives of a notorious gang leader who was to receive the ammunition conveyed by Danjuma Dachung and Markus Danladi.

“Two hundred and thirty-one AK-47 live ammunition were recovered by the police team at their residence in Karabi, Kaduna State,” two of the tweets said.

In his reaction, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, commended the public for their continuous support to the police and the security community.

He gave an assurance that the police would be relentless in taking the battle to criminal elements who were hell-bent in threatening the nation’s internal security and bringing such persons to justice.

A teenager, Adewale Abiodun, and a 24-year-old Aliu Mubarak, have confessed to carting away heads of two policemen that were burnt at Abayomi Area of Iwo Road, Ibadan, during the #EndSARS protest and sold to an herbalist for a thousand naira.

The duo made the confession at Police Headquarters, Eleyele during parade of some arrested persons.

The 17-year-old Abiodun said he found the burnt heads of the officers on the floor and decided to sell them to an herbalist.

He lamented that he had only collected 500 naira from the herbalist before the arrest.

The 44-year-old herbalist, Oladiipo Fakorede who admitted to the crime said he bought the heads for ritual purposes.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu, also paraded kidnappers and some hoodlums that stole from Iseyin Police Station during the #EndSARS protest.

Mr Enwonwu further enjoined members of the public to report anyone with questionable character to the police.

Police in Ogun State has arrested two members of a syndicate who specialized in vandalising telecom mast in Ifo Local Government Area. 

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement in Abeokuta that the two suspects were arrested following a distress call received that hoodlums numbering about ten had invaded a telecommunication mast at Abule Ogun area of the town and they were about carting away the back-up batteries of the mast.

Mr Oyeyemi pointed out that the DPO Ifo Division, Mr Adekunle Samson mobilized his anti-robbery team to the scene of the incident where two members of the gang were arrested while others escaped.

He listed items recovered from the suspects to include a Volkswagen bus with registration number APP 871 XH, twelve telecoms back up batteries valued at about three million naira, gas cylinder, iron cutter, and other house breaking equipment.

Mr Oyeyemi explained that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Kenneth Ebrimson had ordered a massive manhunt for the escaped members of the gang and directed that the arrested suspects be thoroughly investigated with the view of charging them to court as soon as possible.

Inspector General of Police, Mr. Adamu Muhammed has sought the support of traditional, religious rulers, stakeholders and other security agencies at fighting against kidnapping and other criminal activities in the Southwest.

IGP Adamu stated this while he paid a courtesy visit to the Police Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan.

He said the force had put in place sophisticated weapons and gadgets for officers and men to ensure that kidnapping which had become rampant in the Southwest became a thing of the past.

Mr. Adamu noted that the force had also deployed Special Forces with gadgets loaded vehicles to Southwestern part of the country to work assiduously with sister agencies and relevant stakeholders for effective policing.

Contributing, Commissioner of police in Oyo state, Mr. Shina Olukolu said through effective personnel and adoption of different security strategies, the command had been able to nip criminal activities in the bud in the state.

Mr. Olukolu thereby, reiterated the command’s commitment at ensuring safety of lives and property in Oyo state.

Commissioner of police in Oyo State, Mr Shina Olukolu has paraded twenty nine suspects who specialized in terrorizing the people.

They were paraded at Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.

Ten out of the suspects were apprehended at Akinyele area along Ibadan- Oyo expressway with a truck loaded with new four hundred and ten portable generators valued at forty million naira while trying to divert the goods to an unknown location.

The driver of the truck, Abiodun Afeez, who confessed to the crime said a friend of him promised to buy the goods for one million Naira which prompted the diversion.

Also, An alleged serial rapists, Lamusa Anthony, who was known for attacking unsuspecting female and later rape them denied the allegations but said the act was a mutual agreement between himself and the victims.

Other suspected criminals, who were arrested for various offences, confessed to the crime and pleaded leniency

Commissioner of police in Oyo state, Mr Shina Olukolu said through community policing and extra efforts of officers of the command, the state would gradually be rid of criminals.

Exhibit recovered from the suspects included four hundred and ten new generators, five hundred and sixty gallons of engine oil, eight vehicles, fifteen motorcycles, twenty three ammunitions, 24arms, knives, mobile phones and laptops.
