The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Political Parties, security agencies and civil society organizations in Oyo state have expressed their readiness for peaceful conduct of the much-awaited 2023 general election.

This formed part of resolutions at an enlarged stakeholders meeting held in Ibadan towards the successful conduct of the forthcoming 2023 general election.

The enlarged stakeholders meeting which had in attendance, representatives of security agencies, political parties, Interparty Advisory Council, IPAC, religious leaders, civil society organizations and the National Orientation Agency, NOA was in preparation for this Saturday’s elections.

A cross-section of the participants believed that with the level of preparation by INEC and security agencies in the state, the elections would be peaceful and credible.

Two members of different political parties in Oyo state, Mr Gbeminiyi Ayodele and Alhaji Tajudeen Olanife as well as the representative of the youth council, Mr Qodri Olusegun said despite the scarcity of fuel and cash presently being experienced by Nigerians critical stakeholders were resolved to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls

Other stakeholders who spoke with Radio Nigeria appealed to INEC to remain neutral and provide a level playing ground for all parties.

The stakeholders urged politicians to shield their swords and educate their followers on the importance of maintaining peace at voting centres.

Speaking on behalf of other security agencies in the state, Commissioner of Police, Mr Adebowale Williams, represented by ACP Elkanem Umen, said the rank and files of the Oyo state police command have been trained according to electoral act for peaceful conduct of the polls

Earlier, the Residents Electoral Commissioner in Oyo state, Dr Adeniran Tella who assured residents of free and credible polls, disclosed that non-sensitive materials have been received and deployed to all INEC Local Government Area Offices across the state.

Dr Tella said for an inclusive 2023 General Election, materials such as Braille Ballot Guide, transcribed voter information for the blind, magnifying glasses for the albinos and posters for hard-to-hear electorate have been provided.

As the campaign kicks off for Presidential and National Assembly polls in the 2023 general election, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Adebowale Williams has cautioned political parties and supporters to act within the law.

Mr Williams gave the admonition during a courtesy visit to the INEC headquarters in Ibadan.

The commissioner of police, who noted that the era of thuggery during electioneering was over in the state, said itinerary had schemed for various political parties campaigning across the state to forestall any clash or fight between supporters.

Mr. Williams gave the assurance that the police would work effectively to ensure that no one is denied fair participation in the general election process.

In his speech, Administrative Secretary, INEC, Oyo State, Alhaji Abiodun Oníkàté-Amosu explained that the Police plays a leading role in the electioneering process, saying the commission was making a compilation of dark spots in the state to ensure a smooth election process.

Mr. Oníkàté -Amosu added that INEC would soon take delivery of eight thousand units of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for accreditation and transmission of results in all the 6390 polling units in Oyo state.

Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, has given assurance that forthcoming local government election in the state will reflect the choice of the people.

Chairman OYSIEC, Are Isiaka Olagunji made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Office of The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Ibadan.

Are Olagunju, who noted that previous local government elections in the state had been marred with controversies, expressed the confidence that the present leadership of the electoral body would ensure transparency and embark on a positive re- write of electoral process in Oyo State.

Are Olagunju called on residents of Oyo state to hold him accountable for the outcome of local government election.

Receiving the Team from OYSIEC, Resident Electoral commissioner In Oyo State, Mr. Mutiu Agboke assured OYSIEC of INEC’s support in ensuring smooth local government election in the state.

Mr. Agboke advised the chairman of OYSIEC to avoid secrecy and urged him to constantly engage the media on salient issues in order to carry the public along.

While briefing the OYSIEC board on the status of political parties in Oyo state, Mr Agboke handed over a list of eighteen active political parties in the state to OYSIEC . 

Highlight of the event was the presentation of INEC’s policy document to OYSIEC..
