Makinde Charges Residents on Protection of Public Property

Citizens of Oyo state have been advised to desist from destroying public property. 

The wife of the governor of Oyo state, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde gave the advice after inaugurating some borehole projects at Mapo and Bode areas of Ibadan South East Local Government.

“Water is life, no one can do without it, this project will bring life, reduce the cost of access to potable water and serve as means of livelihood to households.”

“Ibadan weather in the last quarter of the year is usually dry, people are confronted with the problem of drought when the ground  is dry, this water will be useful to students, parents and petty traders in the neighbourhood.”

Mrs Makinde said since the government had been fulfilling its responsibility of provision of basic amenities, the duty of the people is to monitor, protect and take proper care of these properties.

The governor’s wife maintained that when people imbibed maintenance culture, all the projects would serve their purposes for a longer period of time.

While speaking, the Commissioner for public works and transport, Professor Daud Sangodoyin said the project would impact people of the state.

Governor Abiodun Declares State Of Emergency In Water Sector

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has declared a state of emergency in the areas of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

Governor Abiodun who made the declaration in Abeokuta, when he received the report of a steering committee for the Implementation of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme, WASH, also declared a war against open defecation in the state.

Governor Abiodun said the water and sanitation sector must be adequately attended to at the urban and sub-urban levels, adding that rural water supply and sanitation needs of the residents of the state would be prioritised in line with Goal Six of the Sustainable development Goals, SDGs.

While noting that potable water, good hygiene and sanitation was crucial to the health and economic well-being of the people, Governor Abiodun pointed out that lack of these basic needs had led to a number of preventable diseases.

He maintained that his administration would continue to invest through effective partnership with development partners towards ensuring that potable water and sanitation get to the doorsteps of every household in the state.
