The Ogun State Chairperson of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, Mrs Olubusola Ogunlowo has led members of the Association on a ten thousand step walk fitness dance and sweat exercise.

A statement by the Spokesperson of State Police command , Omolola Odutola indicates that the exercise was part of activities marking Mrs Ogunlowo’s maiden edition of sensitization on the importance of healthy living and ensuring a daily walking lifestyle for a longer life.

The statement shows that the chairperson of POWA had earlier led a delegation of Police Wives in the state, to Ogun State Police Command to pay a courtesy visit to her husband, and formally welcomed him into the Office and prayed that his tenure as well as other Police officers in the State would be successful.

According to the statement, during the visit, Mrs Ogunlowo enumerates her seven point vision that would be brought to the frontier to assist Police wives to remain at their best emotionally and mentally.

It says that the agenda includes promotion of the importance of healthy living, protection of the rights of women and children against negative vices and violence, welfare of the aged and how best to manage them at old age.

Others were recycling programmes where Police wives would be taught on how to engage in the recycling business as a sustainable means of income, priotizing the education of the Police officers children and adequately supporting them academically.

The statement notes that the Ogun State Chairperson of POWA appreciates the National President of the Police wives association, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun for her resilience and numerous achievements through the partnership of her husband IGP Kayode Egbetokun for his visionary leadership in bringing quality impact to police officers which the beam light can be seen on the families.

It adds that the programme was rounded off with health talks to the Police wives on ways to better advance their course for the year 2025.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has commended the role of wives of security personnel in the country for their support to the officers in the frontline.

The Governor gave the commendation while receiving members of the Police Officers Wives Association, POWA, led by the wife of Inspector General of Police, Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun.

Governor Adeleke described the Police Officers wives as the real heroes who sacrifice a lot at the home front for their husbands to discharge their duties in nation building. 

“The security agencies are doing alot to keep the state safe, the Police, the Secret Police, the Armed Forces and others, are working commendably to sustain Osun record as a reckon of peace.

“When our security is doing well, the real heroes are our mothers, you, our wives, you sacrifice alot, you strengthened our officers in the frontline.

The Governor maintained that Osun state has been privileged to be a peaceful state which allow for a number of investors from far and near to feel secured in the state.

He highlighted some of his administration’s developmental projects to include construction of roads and other social amenities to encourage investors 

He added that women are given priority in his administration agenda within the context of a secured state.

Earlier the leader of POWA, Mrs. Egbetokun had explained that the visit was to advocate for strategic support and the economy value of women in agriculture.

She noted that employing women in Agriculture sector would unlock some potential for economy growth and food security for the families of women and officers of the Nigerian Police Force in Osun state and in Nigeria as a whole.

“Your Excellency we solicit your support in championing the women in agriculture and advancing our collective vision for a prosperous and food secured nation. Together let us work more to future where women are empowered agriculture thrive and our state flourishes”, She said.

The Wife of the Inspector General of Police and President of Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA President, Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun wants women to engage in agriculture in other to address food security in the country.

Mrs. Egbetokun made the call during an event held at the Police headquarters, Osun State.

She stressed the need for all women to utilize their resources and skills to engage in farming to contribute to a more food-secure future for Nigeria.

Mrs. Egbetokun lauded the leadership style of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammed in ensuring the safety and security of Osun State.

She reiterated that POWA would continue to support to their spouses as they uphold the law and protect the communities.

The Wife of the IGP described the association as a vital network of support, fostering unity, resilience, and empowerment among police families nationwide.

“Am encouraging women to venture into farming through ”Young Women in Agriculture under the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), to promote food security in our country,” Mrs. Egbetokun said

“It’s with great pleasure that I am here before you today as the National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), representing the dedicated spouses of our nation’s law enforcement officers,” Mrs Egbetokun submitted

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to deploy more Police personnel to the state for effective policing.

 Governor Makinde made the appeal while hosting the National President of Police Wives’ Association, POWA and wife of Inspector General of Police, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun and her team at the government House. 

 The governor, who spoke through the Deputy Governor, Mr Bayo Lawal, said the state faced a major challenge of inadequate police manpower as a result of its huge land mass. 

 He lamented that the state which usually did not have the problem of banditry and kidnapping, was gradually witnessing it as a result of illegal mining activities. 

 “As the usual saying, whatever you want to receive from a husband cleverly go through the wife”

 “So we want to go through you as the wife of the IGP and the president of POWA, help us impress it on IGP that we need more hands to be able to cover the state for adequate security,”

 The governor commended the Police Command in the state for protection of lives and property and ensuring peaceful atmosphere in the state.

 He pledged the continued support of the state government to all security agencies at ensuring that security architecture was solid. 

 While responding on the purpose of the visit of POWA President which was on agriculture, Governor Makinde said the state was ready to support and collaborate with the association.

 “If the state and the country in general was able to feed herself poverty and criminality would be significantly reduced to the barest minimum.”

 Earlier, the POWA President, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun said the purpose of her working visit to the state was to enhance food, nutrition and a secured Nigeria through UNESCO initiative on Young Women in Agriculture, YWA. 

 Mrs Egbetokun said the association was committed to empowering women and wives of men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force as well as fostering innovation. 

 “We aim to collaborate with the state to nominate women for agriculture programmes in the United States at no cost to the state government”

 “Together we can build a future where our community thrive for sustainable agriculture and food security” the POWA President.

Mrs Egbetokun and her team later visited the Olubadan of Ibadanland designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

Wife of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, and the President, Police Officers Wives’ Association, POWA, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun has called for stakeholders collaboration to empower Young Women in Agriculture to further solve the issue of food insecurity in the country. 

Mrs Egbetokun made the call when she led the Management of the Association to the Residence of Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin at Alalubosa Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The wife of the IGP said, the roles of women in the society could not be underestimated, hence the need for them to be empowered, supported and encouraged to also contribute their quota through Agribusiness to national development.

Mrs Egbetokun assured of POWA’s commitment to enhancing the productivity of Women in Agriculture to improve their livelihood and income.

She sought the blessings of the Olubadan-Designate in her efforts at making women particularly members of her Association self reliant and playing active roles at homes as good and virtuous women.

Responding, the Olubadan-Designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin who spoke through the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Lateef Adebimpe commended the wife of the Inspector General of Police and her team for the visit, saying, the visit was the first from the Federal Authorities since the nomination of Oba Olakulehin as Olubadan of Ibadanland.

He promised to give priority to gender equality and respect women in the Society, irrespective of Religious, Tribe or Status.

On the entourage of Mrs Egbetokun were Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Adebola Hamzat, wives of the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, Zone 12 and 17, some Wives of Assistants Inspector-General, AIGs,  and those of Commissioners of Police, While Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Eddy Oyewole, Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Lateef Adebimpe, Ashipa Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Kolawole Adegbola joined the Olubadan-Designate to receive the Team.

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Commandant in Oyo State, Mr Augustine Padonu has called on the security agencies officers’ wives association to always support their husbands in all ramifications to collectively wage war against insecurity. 

Mr Padonu made the call at the end of a 3-day skill acquisition exhibition organized by Civil Defence Officers Wives Association, CDOWA, Oyo State Command, held at its headquarters, Agodi Ibadan. 

He said diversifying into various handwork training by women would go a long way to assist their husbands who were mostly on the field fighting insecurity for the betterment of all.

 Mr Padonu said all the skills acquired from the 3-day training should be channelled positively to achieve the aim of the organizers as part of their contributions towards a better society. 

On her part, the Chairman of Civil Defence Officers’ Wives Association, CDOWA, Oyo State Command, Mrs Francisca Padonu said the idea was borne out of efforts at assisting officers’ wives to have something doing to contribute to the home front as they believe that men could not do it alone.

 Mrs Padonu said various skills were acquired from the training which included female hat making, food spices and condiments making and many other things being used by women. 

 The CDOWA Chairman in Oyo State, who said over two hundred security agency officers’ wives benefited from the skills acquisition, urged them to make use of the knowledge for the betterment of all. 

Mrs Padonu added that the program would also facilitate a mutual relationship among all security agencies’ officers wives association to assist officers and men physically, psychologically and emotionally to discharge their duties optimally in the theatre. 

In her address of welcome, Commissioner for Woman Affairs in Oyo State, Mrs Toyin Balogun said the skills acquisition programme organized by CDOWA was the right peg in the right hole because of the economic challenges the country is experiencing at the moment. 

The commissioner who was represented by a Director in the Ministry, Dr Folake Fashina said people should not be focused on white-collar jobs but should also channel their energy towards skills acquisition to serve as a bonus to their financial status. 

 Beneficiaries who are also Representatives from Civil Defence Officers’ Wives Association, CDOWA, Police Wives Officers’ Association, POWA, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, NAOWA, Customs Officers’ Wives Association, COWA, Immigration Officers Wives Association, IMMOWA said the skills acquired from the 3-day program would go a long way at keeping them busy and useful in the home front and the society at large.

Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, has distributed palliatives to eighty widows of slain Police Officers from Oyo state command. 

The palliatives which included Rice, Semolina, tubers of yam, Vegetable Oil as well as other food items were distributed to the widows at the POWA end-of-the-year party held at the Police headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan. 

Also, sixty three police families who had acquired vocational skills in shoe making skills were presented with some starters tools at the ceremony.

Some of the beneficiaries said the gesture would ameliorate the hardship faced by many Nigerians due to the present situation in the country. 

The widows, who appreciated the POWA Chairperson and the members for their support urged them not to relent on their oars at bringing succour to them. 

In her address of welcome, the chairperson POWA Oyo state chapter, who is also the wife of the commissioner of Police, Dr Nadia Hamzat said the association was established to provide humanitarian support to the families of police officers. 

Dr Hamzat stated further that POWA also assist through empowerment activities such as provision of amenities to police communities, support for the wives and children of police officers who paid the supreme prize in the line of duty. 

“POWA remains an indivisible family that stands together, come rain come shine, continuously lending a hand to needy families and by extension, the larger community through initiatives such as sanitation exercises, relief aid during natural disasters, campaign against drug abuse, child molestation, trafficking and cultism as well as gender-based violations”.

On her part, the wife of the governor of Oyo state, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde said the gesture by POWA to give out palliatives to the widows was commendable.

Mrs Makinde called on POWA to always support their husbands in all ramifications to enhance their performance while discharging their civic responsibilities.

Resource persons at a one day seminar on effective breastfeeding and family planning want Nigerian women to pay greater attention to their health and wellbeing to enable them to raise healthy children and a better society.

They made the submission in Abeokuta at a seminar organised by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Ogun State chapter in collaboration with the Police Officers Wives Association, POWA.

Radio Nigeria correspondent, Ouwatoyin Adegoke was at the police headquarters, Eleweran, venue of the event.
