Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has won the presidential primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP held at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja

Alhaji Atiku polled a total number of 371 votes to defeat his closest rival who is the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike who had 237 votes.

In the third position is the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki who had 70 votes. Others are; Governor Udom Emmanuel, 38 votes, Bala Muhammed, 20 voters, Anyim Pius Anyim, 14 votes and Tariela Oliver and Sam Ohuabunwa each received one vote each.

Dele Momodu, Ayo Fayose, Charles Ugwu, and Chikwendu Kalu scored zero vote.

In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Atiku pledged to make security and the unity of Nigerians his priority when elected President in 2023 while appealing to PDP members to come together in the interest of the party and Nigerians who have placed their hopes on the party.

Former Oyo state Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a 2023 state House of Assembly aspirant, Wasiu Sadare has called on the leadership of the party to urgently address what he described as an anomaly over non-conduct of primary election in Egbeda state constituency.

Sadare alleged that against all expectations and anticipations, the party committee set up to conduct the said state assembly primary failed to show up at the designated venue leaving aspirants, leaders, stakeholders, and members of the party frustrated after 11 hours of waiting fruitlessly.

According to Sadare in his petition made available to newsmen on Saturday May 28, titled, “FAILURE TO CONDUCT PRIMARY ELECTION IN EGBEDA STATE CONSTITUENCY OF OYO STATE ON MAY 26, 2022 AND URGENT NEED TO ADDRESS THE ANOMALY” addressed to the Barrister Adeoye AbdulRasaq led Oyo APC Primary Election Appeal Committee, the House of Assembly hopeful is seeking among  other prayers that the party urgently look into the non-conduct of the primary with a view to doing so in earnest.

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has emerged the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress,APC ahead of the July 16th Governorship election in the state.

The Governor was on Sunday declared winner of the APC primary election held across the state having defeated his two other contenders.

Announcing the result of the election at the APC state Secretariat, Osogbo, Chairman of the Electoral Committee and Governor of Kwara state, Mr Abdulrahaman Abdulrasak said Governor Oyetola polled 222,169 ,while his closest rival, former Secretary to the state government Alhaji Moshood Adeoti scored 12,921.

On his part, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Lasun Yusuf polled 460.

Reacting to the outcome of the election, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola saluted the peaceful conduct of members of the APC whom he said trooped out emasse to determine who would fly the party’s flag come July 16th this year.

Governor Oyetola said the exercise was a step further in deepening democracy.

However, the Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola who is major backer of the former SSG, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti alleged that the process was delibrately manipulated to ensure the emergency of the incumbent Governor.

In a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr Sola Fasure, the Minister said his group was studying the event and would soon take a decision.

Though the APC Primary Election was generally peaceful across the state, some women in Oyan, Odo Otin local government complained that they could not find their names on the voter’s register.

One man named Ojo Akinola was allegedly shot dead in Odogbo ward six of Atakumosa East local government.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Osun state command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola said the death was as a result of cult clash in the area.

With few days to the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election in Osun State, the state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has warned members of the party not to sell their membership cards.

Governor Oyetola gave the warning in Iperindo, Osu and Ilesa while addressing party members in Ijesa south federal constituency during his strategic engagement tour to the area.

Welcomed by thousands of members, the Governor sought their support in the primary election, saying the power to cling to the second term ticket lies with members.

The Governor welcomed some members of other parties who defected to APC and appealed to all aggrieved members to embrace peace saying, everyone will benefit from the party.

During his visits to the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, Governor Oyetola was asked by the paramount ruler on the possibility of establishing Ijesa University and which the governor said would be possible.

At the palace of Olosu of Osu, the monarchs in Atakumosa west local government appealed to the Governor to help rejuvenate all the farmlands that had been destroyed by activities of gold miners.

Some aggrieved members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo East Local Government Area of Oyo have staged a protest to the state secretariat to demand for primary election than selection of candidates being insinuated in some quarters for the forthcoming council poll in the state. 

The protesters, who barricaded the governor’s office carrying placard with various inscriptions, claimed to have visited Governor Seyi Makinde’s private residence, and would proceed to occupy the party secretariat.

One of the leaders of PDP protesters, Alhaji Lukman Adeyanju, who presented the concern of the aggrieved members, insisted that internal democracy must thrive in the party

The Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde, Bisi Ilaka, who is also from Oyo had prevailed on the protesters even as most of them expressed their minds.

Chief Ilaka, who declined to make an official comment, however stressed that the PDP as a party would address their concerns and grievances.

It would be recalled that Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party had scheduled Thursday 4th for the primary which it later postponed

The party thereafter set up a five man committee to interface with aspirants and leadership of the party in the 33 local government areas of the state ahead of the election slated for 15th May, 2021.
