The need for Muslims to reunite, promote morality, as well as participate in the 2023 elections formed the bases of Muslim Media Practitioners’ Ramadan lecture in Oyo state.
The Ramadan lecture delivered by the Founder, Shafaudeen in Islam, Professor Sabit Olagoke was held at the NUJ chapel hall of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS.
While delivering the lecture entitled, “2023 General Elections and the Roles of Muslims”, Professor Sabit Olagoke lamented inadequate unity among Muslims, saying the craving for immediate material things should not be allowed to shift their focus while participating in politics.
Professor Olagoke, who enjoined the congregation to give their children good education also emphasized the need for inculcating moral training in them.
In his goodwill message, the Arole Iba Oluyole, Alhaji Nureni Akanbi also called for the election of the right leaders who would work towards meeting the aspiration of the electorate.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Oyo State Chairman, Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, MMPN, Alhaji Ridwan Fasasi said since Muslims were major stakeholders in Nigeria’s politics, their active participation was imperative.
The MMPN chairman, who challenged traditional and religious leaders against giving titles to individuals with questionable characters, reechoed the importance of unity among Muslims as the 2023 election gathered momentum.
Alhaji Fasasi, who is also Manager, News And Current Affairs, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, warned bloggers who disparaged Islam to stop the act.
He appealed to philanthropic organizations and individuals to assist the body in the quest for a stand footing in the state.
