The President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other newly elected leaders have been urged not to deviate from their campaign promises when inaugurated into office.

An Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Hashim Atere gave the admonition while delivering the 2023 fifth Shina Peller-sponsored Ramadan Lecture/Iftar held at Dapọ Aderọgba hall, NUJ Secretariat, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

Sheikh Atere, who spoke on the theme: ‘Inescapable Reward of Kept and Un-kept Promises in Public Offices’, explained that politicians could assume any character to win the mind of electorates and thereafter abandon them after they assume office. 

The Cleric noted that the mandate given to them represented the lives, hope and voices of the people hence, the elected leaders must justify the confidence reposed on them through constant engagement and delivery of dividends of democracy

On his part, the sponsor of the programme, the Ayedero of Yorubaland and Member of the House of Representatives for Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency of Oyo State, Chief Shina Peller, said keeping promises and terms of the agreement made him not to seek a return to the green chamber for the second time in the just concluded general election.

Earlier, in an address Chairman, NUJ, Oyo State Council, Mr. Demola Babalola called on the elected leaders to see every promise made during the 2023 electioneering as a debt which must be paid.

Highpoint of the event was the breaking of the fast with Muslim journalists, dignitaries and guests in attendance.

Submissiveness to the will of Allah, being grateful for HIS mercy and sustaining good deeds is ways of attaining more bounties from Allah.

 This is the submission of a renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani-Bello while delivering the 3rd Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Memorial Ramadan lecture held at Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Central Mosque, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

 Sheikh Ajani-Bello maintained that there was a need for Muslims, especially Yoruba-speaking people to desist from associating partners with Allah in worship, shun sinful acts and be consistent in doing good deeds to enjoy Allah’s blessings.

 “Every action attracts proportionate reward in the sight of Allah, no good or bad deed goes unnoticed.”

The cleric, while urging Muslims to maintain good relationships with relatives, the needy and the elderly, called on the faithful to refrain from backbiting, defamation of character, telling lies and name-calling for their supplications in the holy month and after it for the act of worship to be accepted by Allah.

 “As Muslims, it is essential to trust in Allah for changes in conditions”.

Sheikh Ajani-Bello also appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN to make cash available and Commercial Banks to load their Automated Teller Machines, ATMs, to ease sufferings occasioned by the ongoing cashless policy.

He prayed for the Ajimobi’s family, peace, stability and development of Oyo state and Nigeria, adding that unity and togetherness were essential for national progress.

In a remark, the Chairman, Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Central Mosque Management Committee, Alhaji Murisiku Siyanbade who described the lecture as soul-lifting, advised Muslims to reflect lessons of Ramadan in their daily life.

Alhaji Siyanbade noted that the lecture was to sustain the good legacy of late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, expressing gratitude to Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani-Bello for keeping his vow to begin his annual Ramadan lecture in honour of Governor Ajimobi.

The Chief Imam, Olowo To n Fowo Saanu Shopping Complex, Iwo-Road,  Ibadan, Ustaz Isiaq Surajudeen has described the art of keeping family ties as a highly rewarding act in the sight of Allah. 

He stated this at the Maiden Ramadan Lecture of Ile-Alfa Sons and Daughters of Aliiwo Royal Compound held at Ile-Alfa Compound, Aliiwo,  Ibadan. 

Speaking on the topic “Kinship in Islam”, Ustaz Surajudeen said one of the blessings attached to keeping family ties was the promise by Allah to elongate the life of such a person.

He urged parents to avoid telling their children past bad stories and let bygone be bygone as such stories would continue to sever family ties from generation to generation.

Ustaz Surajudeen also called for the revival of the old tradition of communal service where members of the community would involve in joint contributions to aid the success of brilliant individuals, adding that that would address the rate at which youths are involved in criminal activities. 

Earlier, the head of the Ile-Alfa family, Alhaji Daud Adeyemo urged members of the family to be good ambassadors wherever they might be and be responsible at all times.

The chairman of the organising committee of the maiden Ramadan Lecture,  Dr Rasheed Fasasi said the forum was to serve as an avenue to bring all the family members including their children together for interaction and integration. 

He said the Ramadan Lecture would be an annual one while a foundation would also be put in place for the development of the family compound.

Highlights of the programme included special prayers for the family’s descendants.

The need for Muslims to reunite, promote morality, as well as participate in the 2023 elections formed the bases of Muslim Media Practitioners’ Ramadan lecture in Oyo state.

The Ramadan lecture delivered by the Founder, Shafaudeen in Islam, Professor Sabit Olagoke was held at the NUJ chapel hall of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS.

 While delivering the lecture entitled, “2023 General Elections and the Roles of Muslims”, Professor Sabit Olagoke lamented inadequate unity among Muslims, saying the craving for immediate material things should not be allowed to shift their focus while participating in politics. 

Professor Olagoke, who enjoined the congregation to give their children good education also emphasized the need for inculcating moral training in them.

In his goodwill message, the Arole Iba Oluyole, Alhaji Nureni Akanbi also called for the election of the right leaders who would work towards meeting the aspiration of the electorate.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Oyo State Chairman, Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, MMPN, Alhaji Ridwan Fasasi said since Muslims were major stakeholders in Nigeria’s politics, their active participation was imperative.

The MMPN chairman, who challenged traditional and religious leaders against giving titles to individuals with questionable characters, reechoed the importance of unity among Muslims as the 2023 election gathered momentum.

 Alhaji Fasasi, who is also Manager, News And Current Affairs, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, warned bloggers who disparaged Islam to stop the act.

He appealed to philanthropic organizations and individuals to assist the body in the quest for a stand footing in the state.

Economic and political power are factors contributing to rituals killings in the country.

A lecturer at the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Ibadan, Dr Akeula Adams stated at the National Prayers and Ramadan lecture organized by the National Orientation Agency, Ibadan with the theme Ritual Killings Phenomenon: Myths and Fallacies.

Dr Adams explained that irrespective of religion, ritual killing was not prescribed by God, noting that people got themselves engaged in it to acquire wealth and power in society.

The university lecturer said it had become imperative that the Nation’s Constitution take into cognizance the dimension of crime ritual killing constitutes with stiffer penalties spelt out for perpetrators.

Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Agbomokekere, represented by Alhaji Hassan Aameen said good Muslims should see rituals killings as being abominable before Allah and inimical to society.

Earlier, the outgoing state director of NOA, said the programme was organized to educate people on the need to disengage themselves from ritual killings ravaging Nigeria, and to also offer prayers for country.

Highlight of the event were recitation of the Holy Quran, prayers and recitation of Stanza two of National Anthem

Muslims have been admonished to always remain submissive and obedient to Allah’s injunctions in all conditions to overcome socioeconomic challenges facing humanity.

A reknowned Islamic cleric, Sheik Muhydeen Ajani-Bello gave the admonition while delivering the 2021 Annual Ramadan Lecture organised by Awotan Central Mosque in collaboration with the Ansarudeen Society, Washington D.C., United States of America, held at the Mosque’s premises in Ibadan.

Sheik Ajani-Bello, who attributed the prevalent insecurity and criminal activities bedevilling Nigerians to wrongdoings of some unscrupulous citizens, urged Nigerians to refrain from sinful acts and embrace attitudinal change to enjoy Allah’s bountiful blessings.

The cleric, while calling on Nigerians in diaspora to instil indigenous cultural values in their children, advised them to contribute their quota to national development to change former President Trump’s narrative on Africa.

In a remark, the Chief Imam Awotan Central Mosque, Imam Abdullahi Adesina appreciated Allah and those who contributed to the success of the event.

The programme had several dignitaries in attendance including the Former Commissioner of Special Duties in Oyo State, who is also the Babasale Adinni of Awotan, Alhaji Lasisi Balogun, the Alawotan of Awotan, Oba Daud Omotoso and other Baales in Awotan and its environs.
