The Oyo State Roads Maintenance Agency, OYSROMA, has commenced the rehabilitation of the Dugbe and Adeoyo roads through its special intervention project.

The Chairman of OYSROMA, Honourable Ogunlade Busoye Soladoye, who visited the roads today, said that the agency will not relent in fulfilling its mandate to rid the state of potholes and bad roads.

Soladoye said the agency was working in collaboration with all the stakeholders, especially Local Government Area authorities, to ensure safe and secured roads in the state.

According to him, the rehabilitation of Adeoyo and Dugbe roads involved the cutting of potholes, filling with stone bases and Asphalt laying of the roads.

He commended the Oyo State Government, under Governor Seyi Makinde for introducing the intervention project and for the prompt release of funds to the Agency enabling it to perform optimally.

While on an inspection of Ibadan North-West and Ibadan North Local Government roads, the OYSROMA boss assured residents of the Agency’s intervention in all deplorable roads in the State.

In another development, the Oyo state government has begun training of seventy-two desk officers handling pensions and gratuities matters across Ministries, Departments and Agencies on “Efficient and Effective Pensions and Gratuities Administration in Oyo state public/civil service”.

The State Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Alhaji ‘Siju Lawal, said the training is borne out of the Ministry’s desire to modernize its administration of pensions and gratuities through digital so as to jettison the old system of analogue which also causes delay, loss of documents, among other factors.

He urged the participants to discharge their duties diligently and be humane in their interaction with the retiring and retired officers.

Lawal admonished them to always process all documents to time and should not overstay on their table for more than two working days and keep the retired/retiring officers abreast of the next process.

It was euphoria of joy , encomium and showers of prayers for the Distinguished Senator AbdulFatai Buhari as work commenced on the 1.3KM RA Bello Road behind Soun’s house at general hospital area linking Ogbomoso Stadium road to General Brimoh Yusuf’s road which the lawmaker facilitated for total rehabilitation.

The road which connects many household in the locality and link the main road has remained impassable by users, having been abandoned for a very long time and with many efforts at putting it into usable state proved abortive.

Prince Ololade Bello and Mr Toye Adegbite who met with engineers from the Federal Ministry of Works on the ongoing project, Engineers Sunday Akinlabi, Taiye Taiwo and Taiwo Oyunwola, appreciated Senator Fatai Buhari for his tireless efforts in bringing dividends of democracy to the door steps of the constituents.

According to Prince Ololade Bello, ” We bless God for giving us Senator Fatai Buhari in Oyo North. He is a blessing to us and we pray that God will continue to guide him in his service to humanity. The road will be completed so soon and the people in this area will have a new ease of life”.

Mr Sunday Oyeleke popularly called Owo Ajo, a vulcanised in the area said, ” Senator Fatai Buhari is a God sent lawmaker who needs our prayers to succeed for the benefit of us all. Walahi Ogbomoso has never had a senator like him. Who ever thought this road will be rehabilitated so soon ? God will continue to uplift Senator BAF.

Recalled that earlier this year, in March to be specific, the distinguished legislator, the recently ranked Best Senator in Oyo State and fifth, 5th, Best in Nigeria facilitated the rehabilitation of the abandoned Isalu/Ikere Gorge Dam road at Iseyin in Iseyin local government area of Oyo State.

Again in March 2022, the lawmaker facilitated the rehabilitation of the neglected Agolabi/Ikerete Road in Saki.

Work is ongoing on both roads and it is hoped that very soonest work on the roads will be completed for commuters use.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said that the sum of N13bn would be needed to fix the deplorable condition of Sango Ota axis of Lagos Abeokuta road.

Governor Abiodun made this known in Oke Mosan Abeokuta at a virtual Town hall meeting on 2022-2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and 2022 Budget for Ogun West Senatorial District.  

While noting that Ogun west was an industrial capital of the Country, Governor Abiodun said his administration was taking necessary steps to alleviate the sufferings of Motorists passing through Sango Ota axis of Lagos Abeokuta road.

Governor Abiodun also pointed out that 50 units of houses were being built in Ilaro and 130 units in Sango-Ota for medium-income earners, saying a TechHub would be set up in Ota, while a befitting Library would be constructed to cater for the teeming populace in Ota.

In a remark, the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, who decried the slow pace of work on the ongoing construction of Owode – Ilaro road, urged the government to find a solution to the abandoned Ilaro – Ijoun – Ilara Road

Also, the Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege while calling for an upgrade of Gateway Institute of Technology to a University, said there was a need for the government to intensity efforts on a housing scheme in Ota towards reducing the housing deficit in the town.

Thirty-two beggars have been evacuated from the street by the Oyo State Government in its continued effort at ridding the state of destitute and providing succour to children used for street begging.

The exercise, fourth of its kind, was carried out around the popular Dugbe market and Mokola under bridge axis of Ibadan on Thursday afternoon.

Speaking with newsmen after the exercise, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, who spoke through the Director Child Welfare, Mr Sunday Kolajo, said those evacuated included six underage children, five adult men, five adult women, ten male children as well as five female children amongst whom were two on wheel chairs. 

She noted that the evacuated beggars, who were majorly from the Northern part of the country would be taken to a special centre managed by the Matan Arewa for Sustainable Development Initiative, in collaboration with the state government.

Mr Kolajo said the Ministry would work together with the body to give the children free education, feeding and other essentials to change their status in the society.

“We have evacuated 32 destitute individuals from two popular locations in Ibadan, Dugbe and Mokola Roundabout, they have been taken to a special home where they will be rehabilitated for a change on their social status.

“The children among them that were used by their parents as beggars will receive free education after their rehabilitation and medical care, they are Nigerians, and they deserve to be given a better life like others.”

She said the state government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion has zero tolerance for children roaming the street instead of going to schools, adding that this brought about the need for the enforcement exercise in the second half of the year to take destitute individuals, especially children beggars off the street.

He explained further that the Ministry, after getting their profiles, would hand them over to the Matan Arewa for onward repatriation and rehabilitation with their families.

“As you can see, the people are Hausas, the NGO that is working with us today is Matan Arewa who understands the Hausa language, the NGO people will communicate effectively with the beggars in Hausa language.

“The beggars after giving their profile will be handed over to the NGO for onward repatriation, rehabilitation and integration with their families,” he said.

While giving assurances that the raiding of beggars off the street would continue in weeks to come, Mr Kolajo stated that Oyo State Government has been speaking with other relevant ministries in other states on the need to collaborate with them on repatriation of their citizens roaming the street of Oyo State  back to their families.

The President Matan Arewa Sustainable Development Initiative, Hajia Aishat Ismail called on the northern State governments to help at repatriating the street beggars back to their various states.

She hinted that most of the beggars were willing to travel back to their states of origin.

Participants at the boot-camp organised for the rehabilitation of repentant cybercriminals in Ilesa, Osun State have blamed their involvement in internet scams on the influence of peer groups, unemployment, poor parenting, and cognitive disagreement.

Speaking with our crime reporter, Isaac Haastrup at Glorious Legacy Hotel Isokun, Ilesa, venue of the boot-camp, two of the repentant advanced internet fraudsters, Mr. Damilola Akinpelu and Mr. Akinolu Balogun said they found themselves involved in cybercrime because of the uncertainty about their future.
