 The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh has expressed joy with the completion of work and the handing over of the rehabilitated pitch and scoreboards at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, by Dangote Group and Aron Nigeria Ltd.

 The Minister, who commended the companies on Tuesday over the completion of their two-year post-maintenance rehabilitation, called for increased collaboration between the government and the private sector to further develop sports in the Country.

According to a Press Release from the Media Office of the Minister, the rehabilitation of the National Stadium facilities by Dangote Group and Aron Nigeria Ltd is a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Federal Government to enhance sports infrastructure in Nigeria.

Senator Enoh appreciated the commitment and resources invested by the Dangote Group, describing its involvement as a shining example of the positive outcomes achievable through collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector.

“As a country, we are indebted to Dangote Group for the huge resources it committed to the rehabilitation of the National Stadium. I look forward to seeing more collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector to develop sports in our country.”

The Minister of Sports urged the private sector to display greater interest and commitment to investing in sports, emphasizing the pivotal role sports play in shaping the destinies of teeming Nigerian youths. 

He noted that sports, beyond its recreational value, have become significant businesses, saying the Ministry of Sports Development is ready to engage in fruitful partnerships with the private sector to harness this potential.

Despite the significance of the handover, Senator Enoh highlighted a critical issue—the non-certification of the pitch at the National Stadium by CAF and FIFA, preventing Grade A matches from being played,  promising to reverse this tide, that the Ministry under his leadership would work diligently to ensure the pitch meets international standards.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, lauded the partnership between the government and the private sector that led to the successful handover, commending Dangote Group for its substantial rehabilitation efforts as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and called on other stakeholders to emulate such significant investment in sports development.

Representatives of contractors, Aron Nigeria Ltd, Soji Adeniyi expressed satisfaction with the successful execution of the project. 

He commended Dangote Group for its sponsorship and timely payments, acknowledging the cooperation of the Ministry’s facility managers in completing the project.

Senator John Enoh laid down a marker for the continued maintenance of the National Stadium beyond the handover, pledging that the Ministry of Sports Development would ensure the facilities remain in perfect condition.

In conclusion, the Minister of Sports Development reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to fostering a robust partnership between the government and the private sector, ensuring the continued growth and success of sports development in Nigeria.

The Federal Government has acknowledged the crucial role of private investment in the growth and sustainability of sports in the country.

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John  Enoh, stated this during his visit to the headquarters of Remo Stars Football Club In Ikenne, Ogun State.

The Minister’s visit was marked by a comprehensive tour of the club’s state-of-the-art facilities, with the President of the club, Mr Kunle Soname leading the tour.

Senator Enoh expressed his admiration for the impressive infrastructure and facilities at Remo Stars, highlighting the club’s dedication to providing a world-class environment for its players and staff. 

The Sports Minister who noted that the responsibility of sports development should not be shoulder on the government alone, commended Mr Kunle Soname and the entire management team for their commitment to the development of football in Nigeria.

He gave the assurance that Ministry of Sports Development would actively encourage and support private investment in sports across the nation

In a remark, Mr Kunle Soname expressed gratitude for the Minister’s visit and reiterated the club’s commitment to contributing to the overall development of sports in Nigeria.

He noted that the visit would catalyze a more robust and inclusive sports ecosystem in Nigeria.

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh has assured sports-loving Nigerians that there will be transformation of the facilities at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, formerly, Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Senator Enoh gave the assurance during his tour of the facilities as part of his commitment to repositioning the sports sector in Nigeria for the better.

The minister who decried the poor state of the facilities, particularly the weedy main football pitch of the stadium, said federal government would leave no stone unturned in making sure that the stadium regains its past glory.

While conducting round the facilities, where he visited the main bowl of the stadium, indoor sports hall, sports medical centre, weight room, the Olympic standard swimming pool and other facilities which are mostly not in use, Senator Enoh met with some youths and children who were training with the equipment at the stadium, despite being old, encouraging them to keep it up as they were capable of making the country proud through sports if they persist.

Senator Enoh also reiterated his belief that Public-Private Partnership, PPP, is key to the development of sports in Nigeria, calling on the individuals and corporate organizations to join hands with the Federal Government to develop sports in the country.

The minister solicited the support of all Nigerians for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its quest to give a Renewed Hope to the citizens and make the country better than before.

Speaking, one of the private sports promoters within the stadium and the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Kayrom Lee Squash, Gym and Fitness Centre, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde who commended the Minister of Sports Development for his timely visit to the stadium, promised to keep encouraging the youths towards sports, so as to reduce the high spate of crime in the country.
