A former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has expressed sadness over the death of the ex-head coach of the Super Eagles, Christian Chukwu.

According to reports the former Enugu Rangers coach died at the age of 74 in the early hours of Saturday in his home state of Enugu.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding the death of the former Super Eagles captain remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.

His longtime teammate and friend, Dr. Olusegun Odegbami, confirmed the development in a post via his official X handle on Saturday.

Reacting to the sad news in a post via his X page on Saturday, Sani described Chukwu’s demise as shocking, adding that the nation has lost the best football captain in the nation’s history”

Sani wrote, “Christian Chukwu: The news of the death of ex-Super Eagles Captain and coach is shocking. The nation has lost the best football captain in the nation’s history.

“He belongs to the generation of players who never played in Europe but won trophies for Nigeria. Chukwu was a star among the legends. Chukwu made football a meal for Nigerians in the 80s. In his interview last year, he revealed that his salary had been unpaid for 19 years. Adieu, the Chairman.”

Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central during the 8th National Assembly, has failed to secure the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ticket to run for governorship election in the State.

The PDP primary election was conducted on Wednesday across the country.

In a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, the former aspirant congratulated the winner, Isah Ashiru, a former House of Representatives member.

He wrote, “The Kaduna PDP Governorship primaries has been concluded. I lost and Honourable Isah Ashiru won.

“I wish to congratulate him. Two Delegates voted for me without giving them a dime; unfortunately, I don’t know who they are, so that I can appreciate these clean votes. We look forward”.

The former Senator, Shehu Sani, said bandits planted an explosive that damaged the rail track and shattered the windshield of the train engine, as they attacked the Kaduna-Abuja train last night.

Senator Sani said that, the bandits also opened fire, targeting the driver and the tanker, which happened between Dutse and Rijana stations, as the driver struggled to move towards Kaduna Rigasa station.

He explained that early morning of today, he was on board when the train ran over another explosive damaged railing, while the train nearly skid off its path then we miraculously escaped.

The former Senator however advised the government, to suspend Kaduna Abuja train n operations for today until the issue is addressed.
