The legal counsel to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Ekiti State has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to be wary of the consequences of its disobedience to the court order mandating it to allow the party access to election material used for June eighteen governorship polls in the state.

At a news conference in Ado Ekiti, the Lead Counsel to the SDP, Mr Obafemi Adewale, SAN, said INEC as an independent body should not involve itself in frustrating efforts aimed at inspecting the election materials.

Represented by a member of his team, Mr Owoseni Ajayi, Mr Adewale accused INEC of deliberately preventing them from having access to the materials.

The SDP counsel said they had visited the INEC office in Ado Ekiti and its headquarters in Abuja, four times to get list of documents, but the electoral body refused, giving different excuses, which were not known to the law.

Mr. Adewale threatened that the team would file a contempt proceeding against INEC, if the culture of impunity continues.
