Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ondo State Chapter, has inaugurated a three-member electoral committee that would conduct and oversee the forthcoming election into the state executive committee.

The inauguration was performed during the congress of the association in Akure on Wednesday.

The Chairman of the Association, Wahab Bankole, while inaugurating the Committee noted that the SWAN Statute / Constitution must be strictly adhered to by the electoral committee, SWANECO.

 According to him, the process of having new executive members in place must be completed within a month.

He urged the committee to be transparent while carrying out the process of conducting a free and fair election.

The Committee is chaired by former chairman of the association in the state, Mrs Taiye Fagbuyi while Mr. Femi Dairo will serve as Secretary and Mr. Olaolu Adeleye is Member.

 Responding, the SWANECO Chairman, Mrs Taiye Fagbuyi appreciated the executives and members for the opportunity with a promise to justify the confidence reposed in her and other members.

The Congress also discussed issues relating to welfare of members and the state of the association, including annual registration.

Mr. Honour Sirawoo has been re-elected as President of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, for a second term of three years.

Mr. Sirawoo was returned unopposed at the Triennial Delegates Conference of the Association held in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

Also elected were former chairman of SWAN in Oyo State, Seun Ajayi Obe as National Vice President, South West, Bonny Nyong, National Vice President , South South, Dan Musa Mohammed, Vice President, North Central, Jiboh Zakari, Vice President, North East, Chigozie Chukwuleta, Vice President, South East, Jude Opara, Secretary General, Bello Farouk, Treasurer and Orji Samson Nwabebe, Financial Secretary.

The positions of Deputy President, Vice President, North West and Deputy Secretary General were declared vacant by the Chairman of the SWAN Electoral Committee, SWANECO, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin who is also the Chairman of Kaduna State chapter of the Association.

Mr. Benjamin said the vacant positions would be filled in due course as some of those who purchased the forms were not present, thereby contravening the statutes of the association. 

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Sirawoo said welfare of members would be given priority, while more achievements would be recorded by SWAN in the next three years. 

Delegates from thirty states and Abuja took part in the election.
