Osun State Government says it will build the University of Ilesa to meet up with international standards.

The state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke stated this in Ilesa while receiving the report of the recommendations of the ad-hoc committee on the University of Ilesa.

The governor maintained that his goal was to ensure that the university was properly established as the immediate past administration did with the Osun State University.

Senator Adeleke noted that it was not easy for a state trying to get on its feet to have two universities because of funding and infrastructure, hence the need for caution on its establishment.

The governor, who said the establishment of  Ilesa University was one of his campaign promises in 2018, faulted the hasty establishment of the university by the former administration, noting that this was not good for the emotion of the Ijesa people and the students of the institution.

Earlier, the chairman of the ad-hoc committee on the University of Ilesa, Professor Taiwo Asaolu, had enumerated the recommendations of the committee which included transmission of all existing teaching and non-teaching staff of the Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, into the university while all fresh employments, shall be by advertised in the national dailies and the university website as well as affordable school fee for the students.

Professor Asaolu said the establishment of an institute of education was also recommended to oversee the completion of academic programmes of the current students of the regular and part-time programmes, among others.

In attendance were top government functionaries including Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, Chief of Staff, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, Head of Service, Mr Festus Oyebade and PDP stalwarts.
