Over one thousand athletes are expected to converge on Alake Sports, Ijeja, Abeokuta for the second edition of southwest Cadet and Junior table tennis championship.

The Championship put together by Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, NTTF in collaboration with Hoffnug Sports Foundation is to further develop and nurture talents in the region.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria ahead of a three day championship, the initiator of the championship and Former African junior table tennis champion, Dapo Akiode said the competition was part of the efforts to give back to the society.

Mr. Akiode who was represented by Mr. Lanre Aremu pointed out that few Ogun state athletes who distinguished themselves during the championship would be taking to Germany for another competition.

Also, the Secretary, Ogun state Table Tennis Association, Mr. David Osuolale said the association would continue to support initiatives geared towards youth development in the state.

Mr. Osuolale who described the championship as blessing for the southwest region of the country gave the assurance that association would continue to monitor the talents discovered in the course of the competition.

Representative of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Mr. John Peters restated the body’s commitment towards developing table tennis from the grassroots, adding that the NTTF had  zero tolerance for cheating and would ensure that all umpires rose to the occasion.

The Tournament will serve off on Monday November 11, 2019 and run through Wednesday, 13, 2019
