Oyo Govt. Tasks Contractors on Speedy Completion of Road Projects
Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde says it will ensure the speedy completion of the road from New Garage to Kuola through Jakata-Bembo -Apata connecting Abeokuta Ibadan expressway.
The governor gave the assurance during an assessment tour of the road in company of the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Professor Raphael Afonja, some contractors and other government officials.
Governor Makinde, while noting that the project had dragged long, said the remaining three kilometers road project when completed would ease traffic around Ring-road, Apata axis as those travelling from toll gate to Abeokuta could navigate through new garage through Kuola avoiding unnecessary traffic bottleneck .
He also gave an assurance that those people whose properties had to give way to complete the project would be compensated and whatever legal hitches as a result, would be adequately settled as a win – win for all parties in the spirit of development .
The Governor noted that the current project had been included in the 2020 budget and would be given adequate attention.
Meanwhile, Oyo State Government has given contractors handling ongoing road projects in the state two weeks to speed up work or face contract termination.
The State Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation, Professor Raphael Afonja declared this during a meeting with contractors at the conference room of the Ministry.
Professor Afonja, who expressed the displeasure of the state government at the slow pace of work by the contractors, charged them to resume night work for speedy completion of various ongoing projects in the state.
