Church rallies and holding of palm fronds by some church members marking Esther celebration did not hold in most of the churches identified with the day.

Radio Nigeria correspondent, who monitored the situation in Ibadan metropolis, reports that most of the churches had their gates locked while few members gathered holding the palm fronds.

At Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Oke Ado, Saint James Anglican Church Oke Bola as well as Saint Anne’s Anglican Church, Molete, few palm fronds were seen on the floor around the church while scanty members going home held one or two leaves of palm fronds.

A member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Oke-Ado, Mr Sunday Sadiku said the rally could not hold due to the precautionary measures announced by the government to contain the spread of Covid 19.

Radio Nigeria also observed that popular churches such as Living Spring Chapel, Aduloju, Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Imole Agbowo and Agbala Daniel, Ojoo did not open for service.

Meanwhile, Christians have been advised to stay happy and glorify God for witnessing another Palm Sunday.

A clergy with Christ Apostolic Mission Church, Apata area, Ibadan, Pastor Raymond Aremu, stated this while speaking with Radio Nigeria.

Pastor Raymond said despite the present challenge facing the country, it should not be an excuse for Christians not to worship God in their different homes.

He said the day marked the beginning of Holy Week, the final week of lent, hence the need to be thankful unto God.

Meanwhile, the government’s directives on avoiding any gathering of more than ten people still continue as a good number of churches in Ibadan metropolis complied.
