Government need to set up centres where animals can be tested for COVID-19 infection.

Chairman, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, Oyo State chapter, Dr Dayo Adejuyigbe, made the call when he led the executives of the association on a courtesy visit to Radio Nigeria, Broadcasting House, Dugbe, Ibadan.

Dr Adejuyigbe, who said the purpose of the visit was to donate hand sanitisers to Radio Nigeria as part of the organisation’s social responsibility, explained that COVID-19 was equally transmissible from human to animals.

He explained that it was imperative for animals, especially pests to be tested for the COVID-19 to forestall a situation where a new cycle of animal to human transmission will emerge through preceding infection of animal by human.

In a remark, Zonal Director, Radio Nigeria Ibadan, Alhaji Mohammed Bello appreciated the kind gesture of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, pointing out that Radio Nigeria was equally making efforts to educate the public on the importance of COVID-19 measures.

Alhaji Bello said collaborative efforts by all stakeholders would greatly help in achieving the goals of containing the Covid-19 scourge.
