Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has stressed his resolve to put economic and financial measures in place to ameliorate the sufferings of retired officers and pensioners in the state.

He stated this during the presentation of cheques to 2013 retirees in the state.

Governor Makinde who expressed displeasure that past government left backlog of unpaid gratuity to the tune of about twenty six billion naira said the development brought about the increase of monthly release of gratuity from hundred million to one hundred and eighty million. 

The governor reiterated that his government was determined to bring relief to the entire workforce in the state and its senior citizens despite its meagre resources.

The Executive Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioner (NUP), Oyo state chapter, Mr Olusegun Abatan, speaking on behalf of the retirees lauded Governor Makinde’s responsive disposition to pensioners in the state and appealed for pension harmonization.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Professor Daud Sangodoyin, said over eighty two retirees benefitted from the current disbursement.
