Ekiti State Government is to establish sexual assault referral centres to address incidences of rape in the society.

Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi stated this in Ado Ekiti during an interactive session on gender-based violence with heads of broadcast media stations in Ekiti state.

Erelu Fayemi explained that the centres would be strategically located to take care of treatment and counselling of rape victims.

The governor’s wife, who expressed worry over the rising cases of rape, especially the minors, appealed to the heads of media stations to collaborate with the gender based violence committee and champion campaign against the trend.

She noted that the committee had met with local government chairmen to take the message to the grassroots.

In their short remarks, all the heads of the broadcast stations in Ekiti State, including the General Manager of Radio Nigeria Progress FM Ado Ekiti, Mr Dokun Ladele pledged their support to the committee and suggested various ways to make the campaign effective.
