The National Population Commison, NPC, has officially launched the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (e-CRVS) digital birth and death registration system.
The Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Oyo State, Dr. Eyitayo Oyetunji, announced this at a news briefing held at the Commission’s State Office along Secretariat Road, Ibadan, to commemorate this year’s World Population Day and officially roll out the digital platform.
He described the e-CRVS system as a major milestone that would ensure every birth and death in Nigeria is registered accurately, securely and efficiently.
Dr. Oyetunji explained that the Commission migrated from the manual registration system to a fully digital platform to address the challenges associated with collating birth and death records nationwide.
He said the initiative would improve the accuracy, accessibility and timeliness of vital statistics needed for national planning and development.
The Federal Commissioner said the platform offers two registration options: self-registration, which enables individuals to register births and deaths online, and assisted registration, through which NPC officials provide support in rural communities, markets and other underserved areas to ensure that no one is left behind.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the State Director of the National Population Commission (NPC), Oyo State, Mrs. Olabisi Adegbite, noted that this year’s World Population Day theme, “Realizing the Hopes and Aspirations of Young People: Today and for the Future,” highlights the need for greater investment in education, healthcare, employment and other opportunities that will enable young people to reach their full potential.
In their goodwill messages, representatives of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), government ministries and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) pledged their support for the initiative. They promised to sensitise their members and the general public on the importance of the eCRVS platform to promote widespread registration of births and deaths across the state.
