As the country battles community transmission of COVID 19, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has improved its strategies for proper documentation of Passengers Manifest to enhance contact tracing. 

Ogun State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Ahmed Umar made this known to Radio Nigeria in Abeokuta.

Passengers Manifest is a document, for keeping record on the basic details of individuals traveling in public vehicles, purposely for use during emergencies, especially road crashes. 

The manifest, expected to be filled before take off at the motor parks contains the name, address, phone number and destination as well as the contact details of passenger’s next of kin.

Speaking on the usefulness of passenger’s manifest during this period of corona virus pandemic, Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Ahmed Umar said the Corps was devoting greater attention to the enforcement of Passengers Manifest at motor parks with a view to assisting the relevant authorities in the area of contact tracing.

The Sector Commander also expressed the Command’s commitment to the enforcement of all precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19 at motor parks, including the ensuring that commercial vehicles were loaded at half capacity.

A cross section of commuters, who spoke with Radio Nigeria on the use of Passengers Manifest expressed mixed reactions with some blaming their non compliance on the fear of exposing their personal details to criminals. 

A driver, Mr Ismaila Ajeigbe and a vehicle owner Alhaji Sikiru Ogunlola who lamented that many passengers supplied them with wrong, information also noted that if properly maintained, the document would go a long way to enhance the process of contact tracing in the fight against COVID-19.
