Governors of the 36 states are to collaborate with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, to ensure the implementation of five percent user charge on pump price of petrol and international vehicle transit charge, to fund road projects in the country.

The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ekiti state Dr. Kayode Fayemi stated this at the end of 12th teleconference meeting with his colleaques.

The Governors advocated the revitalization of Federal Mortgage Bank to support affordable housing programmes and the importance of releasing two trillion naira Nigeria Infrastructure Investment Fund to stimulate the economy.

After deliberations, the governors endorse the work of Governor Nasiru El-Rufai Committee on the economy and resolved to engage with the Vice President and Chairman of the National Economic Council, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to facilitate States’ representation in the implementation committee of the Nigeria Economic Sustainability Plan. Also endorse is the work of Governor Okowa’s Committee to consolidate on measures to gradually open the formal and informal sectors of the economy.

Following the rise in the community spread of coronavirus cases, Governors agreed to ramp-up testing to curb the spread of the virus especially amongst those with pre-existing conditions and the elderly.

After a presentation by the second corruption survey by the Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime UNODC in Nigeria Oliver Stolpe, and the Statistician General, National Bureau of Statistics Dr. Yemi Kale, which focused on federal government agencies, Governors resolved to collaborate with UNODC to strengthen public complaints mechanisms across Ministries and Agencies in the states to reduce corruption among public officials in the states.
