Some residents of Ibadan have lamented the sight of mentally challenged persons roaming the streets in the city.

Two of the residents, Mrs Ajibola Popoola and Mr Tunji Adewale said that their activities including littering of the environment, and sometimes going violent with passersby, called for maximum attention.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, Consultant Psychiatrist, University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Doctor Oluyomi Esan who said locking up the mentally ill was unlawful, appealed to government and stakeholders to expedite actions on adequate care for them.

Doctor Esan opined that if there were more rehabilitation centres for the mentally deranged, the number of their roaming the streets would be reduced to the barest minimum.
