A committee on school enrolment drive has been inaugurated in Ogun State to reduce the number of out -of – school children and improve the access to basic education.

Speaking at the event in Abeokuta, an official of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Abuja Office, Mrs. Osas Kingsley-Odia said the initiative was to facilitate and sustain the process for aggressive school enrolment children for basic education. 

Mrs Kingsley-Odia who attributed the challenge of poor enrolment of school age children to economic challenges, unapproved charges and inadequate teachers, among others, enlisted the genuine support and commitment of all stakeholders to ensuring that no child was left behind in the efforts to provide qualitative primary education for all children of school age.

Inaugurating the Committee, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs Ronke Soyombo explained that the step became necessary to take more children off the streets into the conducive classrooms provided across the state

Mrs Soyombo promised that all relevant bodies, including school-based management committee, Parents Teachers Associations, civil societies and the media would be aggressively mobilized to enhance school enrolment through a well-orchestrated literacy and numeracy education.
