Police have arrested some protesters and journalists during a peaceful demonstration this morning in Lagos.

The Joint Action Front, JAF made this known in a statement by the Secretary of the Association, Mr. Abiodun Bamigboye

The protests organized by the Socialists Party of Nigeria over hike in prices of petrol, electricity and deregistration of SPN by INEC was repressed by the security operatives of the Area ‘C’ Command.

Eighteen members of the SPN and four journalists, who were covering the demonstration were carried away by the police.

According to the statement, the group condemned the brutalization of journalists, who went about their official duties, and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to obey the judgment of the Appeal Court by relisting SPN and other political parties.

The journalists arrested, who were reporters from Galaxy TV, Sahara TV, Premium Times and Object TV, had their cameras destroyed.
