The National Council on Sports has approved new dates for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival slated for the 5th and 18th of next month, with athletes to resume camping from the 3rd of December.

The apex sports body made this known at the 12th National Council on Sports Meeting held in Asaba, the Delta State capital, with a focus on the National Sports Festival, industry policy, and the business of sports.

The sports council also adopted to comply with all protocols and guidelines endorsed by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 throughout the duration of the event.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Sunday Dare at the occasion lauded the Federal Government for numerous funding of youth based initiatives, while also commending the Edo State Government for its commitment to hosting the forthcoming National Sports festival.

The minister said efforts were on to create business models around sporting activities where the nation has comparative advantage, nothing arrangements were at an advanced stage to resuscitate critical sports infrastructure across the nation, as part of the process.

The National Council on Sports Meeting had in attendance representatives of Edo and Delta State Governments, the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the Nigeria Paralympic committee.
