All is now set for the maiden edition of Governor Seyi Makinde Tennis Championship slated for tomorrow in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The Special Assistant on Sports development to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr Tobi Oyewumi made this known while addressing newsmen at Ibadan Recreation Club, Sabo, venue of the three days Championship.

According to Mr. Oyewumi, one hundred and twelve Players would be competing for medals in the Junior, Pro and Super Veteran Categories of the Competition.

Mr. Oyewumi, who is the organiser of the competition, said Cash prizes would be presented to winners in the Pro Category, while winners in other categories would go home with various prizes.

The Special Assistant reiterated that the Championship, which would be held annually, was in line with Governor Makinde’s agenda to develop sports and check youth restiveness. 

Earlier, Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of youth and Sports, Mr. Oludele Oyadeyi, had informed newsmen that the Championship would create an avenue to discover talents, with an aim of nurturing them to represent the state and the nation at International Competitions.
