Oyo state government on Saturday arrested forty residents including vehicles and motorcycles numbering about one hundred and twenty-five for flouting environmental sanitation laws.

The offenders were immediately arraigned before the State Environmental Tribunal for sanctions and fines.

Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Afbdulateef Idowu Oyeleke who led the enforcement team during the monthly sanitation exercise along Bodija Secretariat road in Ibadan metropolis, expressed worries at the nonchalant attitude of the people towards the exercise.

He noted that despite the campaign against the scourge of filthy environment and the adoption of ‘clean and green initiative’ to rid the State off epidemic, people still go about their businesses during sanitation exercise.

Dr. Oyeleke added that the arrest and sanction would serve as deterrent to others and appealed to citizens to take the exercise as a matter of obligation in order to make the State safer and healthier for people to live and invest.

Top government functionaries who were part of the enforcement and advocacy team include Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Bashir Olanrewaju, Chairman Environmental Task Force, ACP Francis Ojomo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Engr. Ademola Aderinto and Security operatives.
