The Delta State Police Command says the force has arrested a grandmother and a syndicate involved in the sale and illegal possession of firearms.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Mohammed, stated this during a briefing in Asaba, the state capital, where he noted the law was investigating the publisher of a viral video from Warri metropolis which led to the destruction of police facilities in the area.
Oghenero Egweree, reports that the police also warned young girls to avoid taking risks following a Facebook invitation gone wrong and the death of a young lady under mysterious circumstances.
A butcher Garuba Sani of Oghara Cattle market ran out of luck on the last day of December, when got involved in an accident and spilled ammunition from his sack bag. Upon his arrest and investigation he confessed that 67 year old Roseline Abeju was his dealer and that a septuagenarian Samalia Amadi, was the one who sent him.
Madam Abeju a grandmother said she entered the trade as a means of surviving widowhood, while the sender Samalia, claimed he and his fellow herders needed the ammunition for defensive purposes.
Also paraded by the police was one Onoriode Oyiborhoro alleged to have misinformed the public through a viral video that the police was involved in an accident in Warri, which led to the demise of a woman and her baby and the torching of police property.
The state police commissioner Ari Mohammed said recent developments like the END-SARS protest and rampant social media attacks have affected the morale of offices and called for proper verification of information on police activities.
CP Mohammed also told journalist of ongoing investigation of an 18 year old who died in her boyfriend’s house in Abraka and another attacked after accepting a Facebook invitation to Warri, saying both cases are still under investigation.
He added the police arrested 46 COVID-19 curfew violators and 30 cultists during the period and recovered locally and foreign made ammunition and 134 cartridges.
