Oyo State Government has handed over the running of parks and their management to the administration of local government in the state following last week’s High court judgment declaring that the management of motor parks is local government function.

At the event held at the office of Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Bayo Lawal, the Local government caretaker Chairmen issued letters of appointment to park managers.

Chairman, Parks Disciplinary Committee, Mukaila Lamidi, also called Auxiliary, led the park managers to receive letters of appointment from their new employer.

Mr. Mukaila who spoke in Yoruba said letters of their appointment by the state government had been withdrawn noting that they are now under the employment of the various local government administration .

The immediate past chairman of park managers in Oyo state denied reports  that its members were instigating violence at motor parks describing them as law abiding citizens.

Speaking on behalf of caretaker Chairmen of local government areas in the state, Chairman, Ibadan South West local government, Mr. Kehinde Akande said the councils had formally engaged the park managers under their respective local governments.

It will be recalled that Justice M. A. Adegbola had in her ruling last week held that the management and control of motor parks was a local government function as provided for under Section 7 (5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
