Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has presented a ten million naira cheque to International Featherweight Champion, Ridwan Oyekola, ‘Scorpion’.
Scorpion had last December defeated his Argentine counterpart, Lucas Montesino to emerge winner of the Featherweight belt.
Presenting the cheque on behalf of the Governor, the State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Seun Fakorede called on youths to emulate Oyekola by directing their energy to worthwhile ventures.
Mr Fakorede commended the State Governor for fulfilling the promise made to the boxer about the monetary reward and for making sure that sporting activities in the state reached greater heights.
While appreciating the Governor for the gesture, Ridwan Oyekola promised to win more laurels and become the first citizen of Oyo State to become world boxing champion.
He charged the Federal Government to create enablement for sports to grow in the country.
