The National Blood Transfusion Service, NBTS in Oyo State has appealed to the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, for an effective collaboration so as to achieve safe blood provision in the country.

The agency made the appeal during a courtesy visit led by the NBTS Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Dr Oladapo Aworanti to Radio Nigeria, Ibadan.

Dr Aworanti who commended FRCN Radio Nigeria for its professionalism demonstrated through its in-depth reports and commentary on health issues, said it was the mandate of NBTS to ensure that blood is available, safe and affordable.

He decried the menace of paid blood donors saying it has encouraged unsafe practices in blood donation activities in the hospitals.

The hematologist, said explained that his organization’s visit to Radio Nigeria was aimed at creating more awareness on the need for Nigerians to donate blood free and enjoy the benefits that are attached to blood donation.

In her reaction, the Zonal Director, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mrs Bolanle Owoyemi stressed the need for adequate facilities that would make blood donated safe are well preserved for patients in future.

Mrs Owoyemi also pledged to partner National Blood Transfusion Service through its rich contents.
