Social and commercial activities have been paralyzed as tippers and quarry owners block major roads to protest the alleged burning of a truck by angry commercial motorcyclists.

Last Friday, the truck was burnt following an accident involving a motorcyclist and a truck parked along High Court road in the state capital.

Some of the roads blocked with trucks during the peaceful protest included, Oba Osupa Roundabout popularly known as NEPA, A-Division, High Court Road, Hospital Road and the popular Oba Adesida Road.

The situation has forced some residents to trek long distances, while car owners also parked by the roadsides as traffic remains disrupted.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, the chairman of the Association, Mr Moyosola Abiodun said commercial motorcyclists usually burnt down vehicles involved in accidents with them.

A tipper driver, Mr. Femi Afolabi explained that frequent burning of such costly vehicles could discourage the investors and in turn affect the livelihood of the tipper drivers.

The people therefore called on the Ondo State government to ensure that only trained and sensitized commercial motorcyclists were allowed to ply the roads.
