Federal road safety corps, FRSC, has called on people to cultivate the habit of cycling regularly to guarantee a healthy life and less poluted environment.
FRSC oyo state Sector commander, Mrs Uche Chukwurah made the call while celebrating this year bicycle day at its headquarters eleyele Ibadan.
Mrs Chukwurah said the day was set aside by the United Nation for acknowledging the uniqueness, longevity and versality of the bicycle which had been in use for centuries.
She noted that riding bicycle instead of cars sometimes was simple, affordable, reliable, environmentally friendly and a sustainable means of transportation as well as supportive to human health.
Some of the cyclists, who were from the age of 5 to 28years followed the convoy of FRSC with their bicycle to NTA premises in celebrating their day.
They said riding bicycle had become part of their lives as they derived joy in it as well as achieving a healthy lifestyle.
Reacting, Zonal director Nigeria television Authority, NTA, Ibadan network center, Mrs Omolola Olorode said she was glad to receive the cyclists.
The theme for this year’s world bicycle day is “safe the cyclist”.
The day was agreed upon by the 72nd session of the United Nations general assembly held on the 16th April 2018.
