Regular Voluntary blood donation is imperative for availability of it in the bank to safe lives of those in need of it.

A consultant haemotologist, University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Dr. Peter Ogundeji said this while speaking with Radio Nigeria on the occasion of world blood donor day.

Dr. Ogundeji who noted that the level of voluntary blood donation was low in the country encouraged people to cultivate the habit of donating blood on a regular basis for patients in need of blood and its products.

Contributing, South West Zonal Coordinator, National Blood Transfusion Service, Dr. Oladapo Aworanti emphasised that women are expected to donate three times a year while men donate four times.

The health experts advocated increased awareness on benefits of voluntary blood donation.
