Three factories in Ogun state have been sealed off by the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, for illegal operations and violations of environmental laws of Nigeria.

An Assistant Director at NESREA Headquarters, Mrs. Gloria Oboh disclosed this in Abeokuta while briefing newsmen on their operations in the state.

According to Mrs. Oboh the three facilities Plenco Industry, Sango-Ota, Strongpack Limited, Agbara and Cometstar Manufacturing Limited, Agbara were sealed off for violating environmental statutory laws of the country.

The Assistant Director said NESREA was saddled with the responsibility of enforcing all environmental laws, guidelines, policies, standards, and regulations, to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for Nigerians.

According to her, the industries were supposed to have obtained permits and have an environmental audit done before operations which they failed to do.

Mrs. Oboh pointed out that NESREA took the decision to seal-off the companies as a last resort, after every effort to dialogue with the factories failed; and their refusal to respond to several warnings and advisory letters from the agency.

The NESREA operation in Ogun State was carried out in company of the Ogun State coordinator of NESREA office, Mr. Aliu Kehinde alongside representatives of security agencies.
