About one hundred and thirty eight athletes across the states of the federation are to jostle for the one thousand five hundred dollars prize money at the third Chief Olusegun Obasanjo National squash Championship.
The President, Nigeria Squash Federation, Mr. Boye Oyerinde made this known while speaking with sports writers in Abeokuta.
Mr. Oyerinde said the Professional Squash Association, PSA, endorsed championship would enable participating athletes to earn ranking points at the local level.
The Nigeria Squash Federation president said the event would allow the athletes to showcase their prowess in the game to be played at three different venues in the state capital.
Also, Chairman of the State Squash Association, Chief Dipo Akingbade explained that the championship was organized in honour of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s contributions to developing the sport in Nigeria.
Sponsor of the five – day Championship, Chief Yemi Lawal said the competition was borne out of his desire to develop the game and empower the youths.
He stressed the need for the federation to encourage governments at all levels to join in the efforts to develop the game at grassroots level
The championship will serve off on Tuesday, 31st August and end on 4th September, 2021.
