Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has described the late former Secretary of State, United States of America, General Colin Powell as a diplomat with great understanding of Africa during his lifetime.
Chief Obasanjo in a statement in Abeokuta said late General Powell was a trusted colleague and Comrade-in-arm, whose closeness as an African-American assisted in the growth of the continent.
The former president said the tenure of office of the late former Secretary of State marked a significant departure from the traditional relations between Africa and the United States.
Chief Obasanjo noted that General Powell’s death was a great loss not only to his immediate family and to the United States of America but also to the entire world.
