The Federal Government has commended the naming of the new Modern State Secretariat in Asaba, after a globally renowned Professor of Medicine and the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Chike Edozie.

Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, gave the commendation at the palace of the traditional ruler during a visit to Asaba, to inaugurate the secretariat complex and an independent power project also in the state capital.

Professor Osinbajo, who noted the traditional ruler was deserving of the award both as a medical practitioner and a traditional ruler, described the edifice as one of the best in the nation.

Meanwhile, the Asagba of Asaba, Professor Chike Edozien, expressed appreciation for the honour done him by the naming of the secretariat but however requested for a dialogue between the Federal government and the Asaba people to settle the issue of the 1967 Asaba massacre during the civil war.

The Asaba monarch also called for the establishment of a federal university in the area as compensation for the atrocities endured by the people during the war.

Vice President Osinbajo is on a One Day working visit to commission projects in the state, accompanied by the Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri and the minority leader in the House of Representatives Ndudi Elumelu.
