A Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Training Centre for Corps members has been inaugurated at the Ogun state Permanent Orientation camp in Sagamu.
The Multi-million naira training centre established by the office of the senior Special Assistant to the president on Sustainable Development Goals, aimed at promoting social equity, employment generation and sustainable development of the youths.
The state of the art Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Training Centre was the first of its kind with workshops for metal fabrication Automobile, woodwork, leather work for automobile, block Moulding, Tailoring, and the ICT.
The facility has fifty desktop flat-screen computer sets with accessories, tables and chairs, 100 Sewing Machines, wheel balancing and alignment machine, classrooms and big conference hall for meetings among other facilities.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire in her remark said the federal government would continue to encourage the youths to develop sustainable livelihoods.
She hinted that eight hundred Corps members are to be empowered with needed skills for the job market under The August Project’ TAP of the federal government.
Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim in a remark called for the replication of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Training Centre in all the geo-political zones of the country.
He commended the Ogun state NYSC leadership for achieving the project.
The Ogun State Coordinator of NYSC, Dr. Belinda Faniyi in her speech explained that four hectares of land on the permanent orientation camp at Sagamu had been converted to farmland for the corps members who currently owned ten fish ponds, farms for snails, cassava, plantain, yam and vegetables.
She said all the local government offices of NYSC in Ogun state have been instructed to have demonstration farms while some Corps members had also established personal farms and Poultry businesses in the local governments they were posted to.
The state coordinator pleaded with the Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun represented at the event by his Deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako to fulfill the promises of providing ambulance and utility vehicles to the NYSC.
The Ogun state NYSC also inaugurated a new mammy market at the permanent orientation camp and a conference room at the state secretariat.
