The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko directs Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to clamp down on all unauthorized street carnivals which in most cases are avenues for instigating gang-related violence.

This is contained in a statement signed in Ibadan by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Adewale Osifeso.

The commissioner also warns that the ban on the use of fireworks remains valid and that the command will enforce all extant laws prohibiting its sales and usage during this Yuletide season.

She said further that dealers, traders and suppliers of fireworks are advised against stockpiling the prohibited items and selling to ignorant minors as violators would be severely dealt with and prosecuted.

The statement also urges parents, guardians and leaders wielding various degrees of influence in religious, educational and traditional capacities to warn their wards and protégés against violating this law as adequate sanctions would be meted out.

While re-affirming the command’s commitment to the assurances of sustained levels of relative tranquillity throughout the yuletide and beyond, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police says the command can be reached through these control room numbers, 615, 07055495413 and 08081768614 for quick intervention in case of any emergency.
