As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to observe this year’s World Consumers Day, residents of Oyo town want the government to be more proactive in protecting the rights of consumers through appropriate policies, effective implementation and monitoring.

The residents who made the call while speaking with Radio Nigeria explained how their rights as consumers have been taken for granted in recent times.

A parent, Mrs Comfort Alabi and a trader, Mr Vincent Olajide described bank closure based on flimsy excuses and billing for electricity power not consumed as typical examples of violation of their consumer rights.

The residents maintained that unless price and standards regulatory agencies wake up to their duties and public sensitization increases, consumer rights would continue to suffer the present fate.
