It was a disappointing moment for soccer fans in Abeokuta especially those who watched the match at viewing centres after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The fans who left the viewing centres with unpleasant looks said there was a need for a total overhaul of the team including the nation’s governing football body.

A commercial driver, Mr Ajala Dawodu who expressed disappointment over Super Eagles’ performance said the team failed to impress him despite leaving his business to watch the encounter.

Others, who spoke with Radio Nigeria, said the players failed to live up to expectations after recording a goalless draw in the first leg of the qualifier in Kumasi, Ghana.

In his reaction, the chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Ogun State Chapter, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde who described the Eagles’ failure to qualify for the World Cup as unfortunate condemned the fans’ attack on the Ghanaians and destruction of the stadium facilities.

A sports analyst, Mr Lanre Badmus who described Nigeria’s elimination from the 2022 Qatar World Cup as painful blamed the loss on a lack of tactical depth from the coaching crew.

Some football pundits also called for the resignation of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick and the entire coaching crew.
